Pokemon Go is a phenomenon, no question. In case you have been living under a rock, on mars, it’s an augmented reality app that makes anyone with a smartphone a potential pokemon master. The goal is to catch them all, and to do so you’ll have to visit plenty of poke-stops throughout your city and walk A LOT to hatch eggs.

It was an instant success, garnering more active users per day than Twitter or Tinder. For the first week at least, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who wasn’t playing Pokemon Go. Stoners obviously weren’t the target market for this app, but here’s why plenty of cannabis users embraced the app so thoroughly, and why you should too.

5 Reason Stoners Should Embrace Pokemon Go

Nostalgia

Pokemon is still going strong today, but it began back in the 90’s with the wildly popular trading card game, gameboy games and television show. The very same 90’s children are now in their 20’s and 30’s and the idea of being a Pokemon trainer is more attractive than ever!

In many ways, Pokemon Go was an overnight success 20 years in the making. Building an army of loyal fans and fanatics for decades. Now that the majority of these fans are entering adulthood, they’re looking for ways to relive their childhood and escape into a familiar world they often dreamed of as a kid. That’s why so many adults are attracted to the idea of Pokemon Go, despite it seeming like it appeals primarily to small children.

Don’t get me wrong, plenty of small children LOVE Pokemon Go, plenty of older adults too! It’s something to truly appeals to everyone, especially when paired with some fine herb.

Find New Smoke Spots

This bonus can go either way. Maybe you already had some amazing smoke spots that you would frequent, and now there is a Gym there and it’s crawling with trainers day and night. Reddit’s cannabis community was actually complaining about this very issue, quite a few prime smoke spots were ruined by the app. For some, finding a new smoke spot was a necessity, for others it was a joyous adventure.

Pokemon Go will have you running around and visiting places you’ve never seen before. It will also alert you to the most active areas, places you might want to avoid if you want to smoke in peace.

Explore Your City

Going hand in hand with finding new smoke spots, Pokemon Go is encouraging people (stoners included) to get out and explore their city to find powerful Pokemon. Even those who’re familiar with their city can find new attractions and hidden gems off the beaten path.

Again, the more you explore, the more amazing potential smoke spots you’ll find along the way.

Make New Friends

Pokemon Go is a great conversation starter, despite people being buried in their phone screens. Now instead of perusing social media or texting, they are hunting for the very same Pokemon as you. If you’re lucky enough to live in a legal state you can visit a Poke-stop, have a sesh and attract some like-minded folks to join you.

These days it can be difficult to spark conversation with total strangers, not to mention making new friends out of thin air. Our increasingly connected world has left us in a constant state of disconnection when it comes to person to person interaction. Pokemon Go is a great way to stay connected, while promoting conversation in the REAL world.

Get Active

Living an active lifestyle is important, Michelle Obama told me so. It can be difficult to motivate yourself to get up and go for a walk everyday, especially when Netflix and a fat joint is on the menu. But you’re not going to catch very many Pokemon from your couch, nor will you hatch very many eggs from your living room. This little extra push is just what many people need to make a point to get out and walk around everyday.

For tokers, it’s a perfect excuse to have your sesh on the go. Roll one (or two) up, pack the vape or however you prefer to enjoy cannabis, and hit the town!
