compassionate idaho chuck winder medical marijuanaI received some Facebook alerts and text messages and e-mails (and just about every other form of communication!) late last night about Idaho Senator Chuck Winder introducing a couple of pieces of legislation that would block Idaho from EVER getting medical marijuana. Clearly this is unacceptable. If you live in Idaho, it’s time to mobilize. If you don’t live in Idaho, it’s still worthwhile to call politicians, news agencies, and anyone else that will listen because this is total crap. Below is information from the Facebook page about what is going on:

What: PROTEST against Chuck Winder’s presentation of RS 21862 and 21872 to PERMANENTLY ban Marijuana in Idaho, regardless its application– meaning recreational, spiritual, or MEDICAL.THIS MOVED ON TO COMMITTEE. THEY WANT MORE COMMENTS. PLEASE COME TO THE COMMITTEE HEARING. THE EVENT WILL BE UPDATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WITH THAT INFORMATION. PLEASE CONTACT THE SENATORS. THEIR CONTACT INFORMATION IS BELOW!

Where: Idaho State Capitol Building, Room WW55

Why: Our State Elected Officials are supposed to represent us, Idahoans, and make our wishes and demands know and attempt to see them effected. Chuck Winder has no business attempting to ban marijuana in Idaho, since a 2010 Clear Research Poll showed 74% of Idahoans polled to be supportive of medical marijuana legalization, and there is a healthy percentage of us who would see it legalized entirely.

Our neighbors in Washington have spoken up and made responsible marijuana possession legal, as did Colorado. Many cities across the nation have decriminalized marijuana possession and use, or made it ‘lowest priority’– HAILEY, IDAHO being one of them. With 18 states allowing medical marijuana, and multiple states preparing to introduce legislation to legalize it in the coming year, it is absolutely a step backward for Mr. Winder to introduce this bill.

If you’re tired of waiting for Idaho to catch up with modern medical scientific research that proves marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and a better medicine than most currently legal prescription medications, if you’re tired of being considered a criminal because you choose to use a plant, if you don’t want to see your children fighting the same battle we are now, SHOW UP tomorrow and SPEAK UP for your right to choose!! BRING A SIGN AND LET OUR REPRESENTATIVES KNOW THAT IDAHO SUPPORTS MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION!!!

Why would he do that. Did he not read the report from the Mayo Clinic?

We don’t want to go after Elliot Werk. He’s just my Rep that happens to sit on the committee. We need to go after them ALL fairly, with exception to Winder, as he is the on that introduced these SRs. Thank you!

same thing the pot-bigots in Iowa are trying……with HSB 55

  • AccidentalZen

Banning a substance for public use would require an amendment to the Idaho State Constitution. Surely a state senator would know that. But I’m not surprised.

Chuck Winder is a political joke! He ran (and lost) for various political positions for about 10 years, but finally “won” (via “default”) due to his red state alliances (can you say, “republican party straight ticket vote?”) and a recent district re-mapping. Interestingly, he was born in Ontario, OR. Some folks around Boise call him “Mr. Potato Head personified.” He is only 53 YO but looks much closer to age 70. He is not LDS, contrary to popular thought, but instead is a Presbyterian Church Elder. Unfortunately he appears to be stuck in the 1940’s school of thought & his opinions clearly demonstrate this. This is not the first occasion he has demonstrated his total ignorance of a more modern society, and he has come under fire many times for his ridiculous comments and world views in the past. Following are info snippets for anyone who wishes to know more:

Chuck Winder has been a Republican member of the Idaho Senate since 2008 and is representing the 14th District. He is married to Dianne Winder; the couple has two children.
Born: December 30, 1959 (age 53), Ontario, OR
    Spouse: Dianne Winder
    Education: College of Idaho
    Party: Republican Party

God help us!; he needs to just go crawl under a rock somewhere for the rest of his life, and get the He!! out of all government functions. Obviously, his personal agenda supersedes everyone else.

a wallet and $$$ is all they see
If there was some tax on MJ tied to help school funding’s, the people will vote for it, it is a no brain’er
with one hand they spend millions fighting the public in the name of public safety when it has been proven that any physical consequence of MJ is nothing compared to the Legal repercussions of possession.
then the other hand they close our schools and cut our health care.
    VOTE THEM OUT.
If we give in to 0% tolerance for possession in public, maybe they will give us 5′ of our property to do what we want
