Hempstalk 2011

Last weekend the Pacific Northwest was blanketed with haze; but, not from the forest fires. This year’s Hempstalk here in Portland, Oregon was awesome! First, we were greeted by countless booths selling anything and everything marijuana lovers could want. After hours of browsing the plethora of glassware, it was time for a snack. The shaded area was being well used by numerous huddles of red-eyed Hempstalkers. My shaved ice was complimented with a delectable brownie and chocolate chip cookie I purchased from one of the festival’s unofficial vendors walking amongst [Continue Reading]

I Don’t Want You To Smoke; I Just Want You To Understand Why I Do

My name is No Inhale. I am 20 years old and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am part-owner and administrator for The Weed Blog. I don’t have a criminal record and I’m attending school full-time, but still people don’t think I am capable of leading a healthy and productive life. I’m not here to endorse smoking marijuana, nor am I here to convince anyone to try it. I am only asking those around me to, not only understand why I smoke cannabis, but accept it, as well. I first [Continue Reading]

Feds Warn Oakland About Medical Marijuana Farms

Anyone running a marijuana farm is a potential target for federal prosecution, regardless of whether Oakland or California laws allow it, the U.S. attorney warned in a letter to the city Tuesday. The letter was written by U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag of the Northern District of California to Oakland City Attorney John Russo, in response to a letter Russo had sent Haag two weeks ago. Russo was asking for clarification about what legal concerns the city would face under federal law with its medicinal marijuana policies, which may soon include [Continue Reading]

Proposed Bill in California Would Protect Workers That Use Medical Marijuana

A state senator has proposed a law that would make it illegal for an employer to fire someone with a legal prescription for marijuana who used it outside of work. The bill, SB129, would bar employers from making a positive drug test a criteria for hiring and firing decisions if the employee was a registered medical marijuana user. It would not change existing laws about using marijuana during work hours or at the workplace. The bill, proposed by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, would exempt certain types of employment, including [Continue Reading]

Michigan Senator Wants Changes to Medical Marijuana Program

Senator-elect Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) thinks the legalization of medical marijuana in Michigan has been done in a haphazard manner and needs to have proper oversight and regulation in place to prevent negative outcomes. The Denver Post reported in November of this year that taxes on medical marijuana dispensaries had resulted in $2.2 million in tax revenue for local and state government in Colorado. While that is a tiny amount of the budget gap that state faces – estimated at $1.8 billion – it could be an indicator of a [Continue Reading]
