Attorney General Holder Admits Obama Misled On Medical Marijuana

As many of you have heard by now, Jimmy Kimmel called Obama out on marijuana at the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Dinner last night. Kimmel asked, “What is with the marijuana crackdown? Seriously, what is the concern? We will deplete the nation’s Funyun supply? Pot smokers vote too. Sometimes a week after the election, but they vote.” Kimmel’s comments were funny, and of course it’s always good to see celebs bringing attention to the movement, but what happened off stage is tremendous news for the medical marijuana movement. Last Thursday, [Continue Reading]

Missouri's Campaign To Legalize Marijuana Is Still Chugging Along

Missouri’s “Show-Me-Cannabis Campaign” Is Still Working Towards Making The 2012 Ballot I was sad to see several news outlets report that Show-Me Cannabis had given up its campaign to legalize medical marijuana in Missouri. It is absolutely false! The Show-Me Cannabis campaign is alive and kicking in Missouri. Here’s what they had to say about the mix-up on their Facebook page: “This AP article on the campaign is appearing in papers across the state, which is good. However, an earlier version of it incorrectly claimed that we would not make [Continue Reading]

Feds Continue To Play Whac-A-Mole With Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Prosecuting Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Is A Complete Waste Of Federal Resources At a time when our nation is running on financial fumes, our government continues to waste money destroying local economies in an absurd Whac-a-Mole mission to crackdown on medical marijuana. From tearing the medical marijuana industry down to its foundation in Montana, to running amuck at Oaksterdam U, Uncle Sam has been busy over the last couple of years. Many dispensaries, collectives, cultivation centers, compassion centers, and caregivers have been shuttered by direct federal threats and action. Federal Prosecutors [Continue Reading]

Is Marijuana A Weed?

For those of you who don’t spend time cruising the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, it shows how many searches occur each month for a given keyword. For example, people search for “Is marijuana a weed” over 7.5 million times each month. I had no idea so many of you had this question. Being that we are THE Weed Blog, I set out to answer the question once and for all. I had always assumed ‘weed’ was just a slang term that started with prohibition, but had become a term of [Continue Reading]

Oregon May Cease Helicopter Patrols For Marijuana Grow-ops

Due to proposed cuts in funding to the National Guard Counter-drug Program by President Obama, Oregon may cease all helicopter patrols for marijuana grow-ops statewide beginning next year. Apparently, the massive cost of the operation is simply too high, relative to the benefits of an air assault on cannabis. The Baker City Herald reported that “Baker County Sheriff Mitch Southwick is worried that proposed cuts in the federal budget will weaken local law enforcement’s ability to stop illegal marijuana-growing operations.” The Herald went on to say, “While [Sheriff] Southwick isn’t [Continue Reading]

Dutch Court Upholds Ban On Foreigners From Marijuana Coffee Shops

In an attempt to destroy marijuana tourism in The Netherlands, the Dutch government passed a law banning all foreigners from the world famous Dutch cannabis coffee shops, including those in the marijuana Mecca, Amsterdam. Today, a judge at The Hague District court upheld the controversial new law, which requires Dutch citizens to show their ‘weed pass’ before entering a cannabis coffee shop. The new law will be effective May 1 in the southern provinces, and across the country by the end of the year. Is this the end of an [Continue Reading]

G-men Raid G Street Marijuana Grow-Op in Oakland

The DEA and Oakland police tag-teamed a marijuana grow operation overnight, deploying flash-bang grenades, arresting 11 people, confiscating two pit bulls, over 1000 plants, and several weapons. Police allege the warehouse grow was also a distribution center, and was not related to medical marijuana. This comes on the heels of the recent raids on Oaksterdam University, and several other businesses owned by legendary cannabis activist Richard Lee. Oaksterdam U had been a source of great pride for the medical marijuana community, as a symbol of the movement’s genuine purpose of [Continue Reading]

Obama Finally Speaks Out On Medical Marijuana

After many petitions, open letters, rallies, and YouTube videos calling on the President to explain the slew of federal raids on medical marijuana providers and growers, Obama finally responded in a recent interview with Jann S. Wenner from Rolling Stone. But first a bit of history. In 2008, Obama promised to let states regulate medical marijuana, stating, “I’m not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue.” In March of 2009 Attorney General Eric Holder said, “It will not be a priority [Continue Reading]

Arizona Considers Allowing Medical Marijuana For PTSD, Anxiety, Migraines, And Depression

More good news for the Arizona Medical Marijuana Program on 4-20 as Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Director, Will Humble, announced on his blog: “The voter approved language in the AZ Medical Marijuana Act directs us to periodically accept and evaluate petitions to add new debilitating medical conditions. We’ve made it through the first phase of considering whether to add 4 new debilitating conditions 1) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; 2) Generalized Anxiety Disorder; 3) Migraines; and 4) Depression.” If ADHS approves these new conditions, Arizona would become the first [Continue Reading]
