colorado marijuana retail legal recreational stores rulesCentral City, the original site of the 1859 Colorado gold rush, is now the first city in Colorado to have a store licensed to sell marijuana to adults! The store, called Annie’s, is a medical marijuana dispensary that will begin selling marijuana to adults on January 1st, pursuant to Amendment 64. Annie’s is the first store to receive a license, but it won’t be alone for long. The state is considering hundreds of other applications and is expected to issue many more licenses in the coming weeks and months.

The state is scheduled to allow retail marijuana sales to begin on January 1, 2014.

“Colorado is moving forward and leaving marijuana prohibition behind. For the first time in history, those who sell marijuana are receiving licenses from the state instead of rap sheets,” said MPP’s Mason Tvert. “Marijuana will be sold to adults by legitimate, taxpaying businesses instead of drug cartels in the underground market. [...] Colorado is proving to the rest of the world that marijuana can be regulated like alcohol. It will not be long before voters and lawmakers in other states decide to adopt similar policies. Marijuana is objectively less harmful than alcohol, and it is finally starting to be treated that way.”

    Bravo for Annie’s.

This is wonderful news, and it’s too bad it is overshadowed by the raids that happened in Denver and elsewhere yesterday. I find it interesting that this was happening at the same time. Makes me really wonder what was up with the places being raided.

John Denver was a famous Colorado citizen, who was a singer song writer. The lyrics to his song Rocky Mountain High is etched in stone on a mountain road in Aspen, Co. The last verse of the song includes the line “Friends around the campfire and everybody’s high”. Another one of his biggest hits was called Annie’s Song, with lyrics ” you fill up my senses like a night in the forest”. It seems this first legal shop is a tribute to John Denver. Or am I Rocky Mountain High?

Fact is they altered that lyric in rocky mountain high when the stone carving was made, much to the anger and dismay of johns widow. Interesting though that this shop is called annie’s. Can’t wait to go there

I have to say, I think American states finally stopping their war on drugs, or cannabis in this case, is a great step on the way to full, global legalization, seeing as the U.S. was one of the first nations to start prohibiting cannabis and other drugs on a large scale, which made other, smaller countries follow; and now the same thing might happen again, but the other way round, which is amazing to see! The time has finally come for the people not to be oppressed anymore, the time has come for people to be able to make their own decisions again, the time of freedom is approaching, and it will thrive in the future as other authorities will realize the foolishness in fighting drugs and adapt a system that protects consumers, non-consumers, and children/teenagers alike. The legalization of marijuana in Washington and Colorado is a huge accomplishment for all those entities that have been fighting for a reform of the drug policy, and it is also an equally large victory for mankind and its fundamental freedom to indulge.
