Washington and Colorado made history on election day when they voted to tax and regulate marijuana. Starting tomorrow, people aged 21 and over will be able to legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana in Washington State. Ethan Nadelmann of the Drug Policy Alliance discusses the ramifications on CNN:

And starting tomorrow the Washington State Patrol will be geared up to start making per se DUID arrests for anyone under 21 with ANY detectable amount of THC in their system (5 ng/ml for adults). Voters were talked into trading one terrible, unjustifiable, prohibition for an even worse one, with far greater penalties.

Smart move Mr. Nadelman! You’ve played right into the hands of the Drug Czar’s new strategy for the War on Drugs…and spent millions to sell it to the voters of Washington who will suffer the most from it.

Will the Drug Policy Alliance now support similar per se DUID for cannabis in other states….or was Washington the only one chosen to suffer?
