G13 Haze Marijuana Strain Review

July 15, 2013
This is the G13 Haze marijuana strain.

In the groundbreaking film, American Beauty, Kevin Spacey’s character becomes a midlife crisis pothead who buys weed from his teenage neighbor. Spacey is given two choices when making this awkward purchase: a “totally decent” ounce for $300 or a “top-of-the-line” option for $2000. The young neighbor further elaborates on the exorbitant weed, “it’s extremely potent, but a completely mellow high—no paranoia. It was genetically engineered by the US government. It’s called G13.”

Claims about the government creating G13 have been part of marijuana mythology in stoner circles for years; however, if you’ve experienced the powerful effects of the G13 strain, you’ve at least considered the possibility the legend may be true. G13 Haze is a genetic offspring of G13, and let’s just say, the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.

What Strain Is G13 Haze?

The G13 Haze strain is the result of crossing the mysterious G13 with Haze, a popular sativa known for its uplifting mental high. It’s thought that G13 was originally created as a medical strain and its medicinal properties carry over to G13 Haze, creating the perfect balance between medical and recreational. The combination of these two strains creates a truly unique experience for G13 Haze consumers.

Marijuana strains fall into three general categories: sativa, indica, and hybrid. The G13 Haze  strain is classified as an indica, as it is technically a hybrid strain with 70% indica and 30% sativa. While (G13 haze) is mentally stimulating like a sativa, it ultimately acts more like an indica with significant sedative effects. Inexperienced smokers should use caution, as the indica effects of this strain could leave you totally impaired in a G13 Haze.

Appearance, Aroma, and Flavor

The G13 Haze plant has a healthy, bright green look with vibrant coloring, and its buds are lumpy and very dense. The buds are often spade-shaped with dark, olive-green hues and sparse orange hairs. A thick coating of frosty, light-blue crystal trichomes can be observed with close inspection.

Initially, G13 Haze has a sweet odor when it’s lit, much like the fruity fragrance released when the buds are ripped apart. As the flower burns, you might detect a slight skunk smell along with the sweetness. The two aromas coalesce to form a dense cloud of sweet earthiness all around you.

The flavor of this strain reflects the aroma, except for a spicy addition that adds a bit of variety. You’ll first detect a fruity sweetness as you inhale, but a spicy, tang aftertaste will eventually settle in your taste buds. Many cannabis connoisseurs have praised G13 haze’s spicy-sweet flavor profile.

Cannabinoid Content

The THC content for G13 Haze ranges from 22-24%. This strain has less than 1% CBD with no relevant amounts of minor cannabinoids such as CBG and CBN. As the medicinal understanding of marijuana increases with more supportive empirical evidence, the inclusion of minor cannabinoids will become more common in cannabis genetics and cultivation.

Effects and Medical Treatment

The G13 Haze strain has a high concentration of THC which produces strong effects along with several medicinal benefits. Due to the numbing sensation often felt by consumers, this strain effectively treats pain and inflammation. Whether your feet hurt from a long workday or you suffer from chronic pain, G13 haze has the potential to help with its full body sedation.

In addition to treating pain, G13 Haze can also help alleviate insomnia, anxiety, and loss of appetite. The strain’s ability to deeply relax both the mind and body eliminates stressful thoughts before bedtime while reducing physical aches and pains. With G13 Haze, you’re guaranteed to have a full night’s sleep with a full belly.

G13 Haze Strain Review

The initial effects of the G13 Haze strain become quickly apparent with waves of mental euphoria that give way to tingling sensations throughout the body. After a few puffs, staying awake can be a challenge as body sedation takes hold and continues for hours. G13 Haze isn’t recommended for beginners, as the strain’s high THC content may cause inexperienced consumers to feel overwhelmed.

G13 Haze THC Percentage

The average THC percentage of G13 Haze is between 22 and 24, compared to 12% which is the average for hybrid strains. With such a colossally high THC percentage, G13 Haze is not recommended for inexperienced cannabis users. This THC content results in powerful effects that can be felt with just a few tokes. If you don’t consume marijuana on a regular basis, you should probably avoid this strain until you get your weed legs.

How Long Does G13 Haze Take to Flower?

It takes G13 Haze approximately 10-12 weeks to flower if you’re growing indoors. By 12 weeks, your plants will be ready to harvest. You can expect average to large yields indoors and an even more abundant harvest outdoors. It’s also important to note that G13 Haze requires a certain level of experience and knowledge when it comes to trimming. Novice cultivators may have difficulty with pruning and plant maintenance. If you’re interested in cultivating this strain, you can usually purchase its seeds from most online seed banks, although they’re not as common as other strains.
