Coming out to the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup on Saturday or Sunday, June 11 and 12? Here’s a guide on what to do- and what to avoid.

1. BE A PATIENT- AND BE PATIENT

If you are not already registered with the State of Michigan, there will be a physician on-site to do certifications. Bring all relevant medical records with you. Be prepared to present your proofs and identification. If you get there and you did not bring what you need, it is only your fault- don’t whine like a baby.

Lines can get long, especially when checking in. Be courteous to your fellow patients and don’t gripe or complain; there is a line to get in to every major event, including rock concerts and sporting events.

2. DO NOT SMOKE ON THE WAY

Lots of stories circulate each year about how someone was almost to the Cup but was pulled over by law enforcement. It’s a smoking venue, so save your lungs for the party and keep your ass out of jail. Don’t bring a car with expired license plates or a burned-out tail light- those are easy reasons to get extra attention from local police.

3.  BE PREPARED FOR THE SUN

Predictions are for temperatures to be in the 90’s, so plan ahead. Show some skin to keep cool but protect that skin with some serious SPF sunblock. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and there are hundreds of vendors to see- don’t get ‘burned out’ after a half-hour and decide to quit.

4. STAY HYDRATED

Drink lots of non-alcoholic fluids. Water is best, but some of those pop-addicted people slam those Dr.’s and Mountains like they were going out of style. No matter the beverage, drink and drink and pee- it’s good for you!

5. STAY FOR THE CONCERT

Melissa Etheridge will be performing a concert for us! She’s a fantastic performer with a personal story about cannabis and healing. She’ll tell you about it- and the venue should be waaaaay more cool during her performance time. Possibly the most badass concert High Times has brought to Michigan yet!

6. SPEND MONEY ON NEW STUFF

Need a specialty part for your glassware, or just need a new rig? This is the place to go to satisfy those needs. How about a kick-ass t-shirt, or a piece of memorabilia? You will not find a better selection at any time in this state. Support the vendors that give jobs to Michigan residents. Ask people- where is your business located?

7. TAKE PICTURES, AND SHARE THEM

Many people will not be able to attend the event, for a variety of reasons. Share your pictures on Facebook or Instagram and do videos for Vine and YouTube. When others see how absolutely non-dangerous these events are, the perception of our industry changes in the minds of soccer moms and senior citizens. Smile, grab a friend, and do that selfie!

8. GET EDUCATED

Seminars will be held on both days that will bring clarity to politics and answer questions about making medibles, growing cannabis and starting a legal business. Check the schedule and get yourself to the tent- it’ll be a great place to escape the heat and pump up your brainpower, too!

9. NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK

This is also known as ‘talking to everyone you meet.’ How do you find a better caregiver, or discover a new nutrient line, or finally learn how to roll that three-pronged doobie you see in High Times Magazine? You talk to folks! Best place to find a new book, a new inspirational figure or a new lover. Yeah, it happens.

10. EXPLORE THE NON-PROFIT BOOTHS

Familiar faces like Michigan NORML and MILegalize will have booths there, but so will The Thin Green Line and Michigan Moms United and many others. Don’t know them? Get to know them! These are the people fighting to keep you and your kids safe, for this generation and beyond. Show them some love and find an organization to join.
