It always surprises me how many people out there don’t know how marijuana became illegal in the first place. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone is opposed to marijuana reform simply and only because it’s currently illegal at the federal level. I have always hated that logic. There have been a lot of things in American history that have been perfectly legal or prohibited, yet in no way should those things have had those legal statuses.

Allowing women and minorities to vote was illegal for a long time in America. Slavery was legal. Should either of those public policies have had the legal status they did? Of course not, which is why those laws were reformed. So too should marijuana laws be reformed. Marijuana prohibition is unjust, illogical, and was created out of racist fears and greedy intentions. I came across a video this week that sums up how marijuana became illegal in the first place in America, in just 94 seconds. If you know someone that should see a video like this, make sure to share it with them:

It’s a good thing places like Louisiana and Idaho are starting to change, because they have some of the worst laws. The real reason is people cannot stand to see someone intoxicated. Too much jealousy.

There’s another side to as to why weed is illegal. Weed is a mild hallucinogenic ,therefore it opens up the mind of the people. If the us government is reading this ,u might want to consider researching sativas vs indicas, TRUST ME YOU DON’T WANT ALL THE PEOPLE SMOKING SATIVAS ,IT WILL CAUSE A MASSIVE REVOLUTION,GIVE THEM INDICAS ONLY, IT DOESN’T OPEN YOUR MIND,I DO LOTS AND LOTS OF EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ,PERSONAL EXPERIMENTS AND EXPERIENCE . I’M WARNING U ,US GOVERNMENT THERE WILL BE A MASSIVE REVOLUTION! LET THE PEOPLE SMOKE INDICAS ,IT CLOUDS THE MIND.

“The real reason is people cannot stand to see someone intoxicated-”

Louisiana and Idaho don’t have any problem w/ people being intoxicated on alcohol. I think they’re just infested w/ more control freak bigots than some other places. The alcohol loving “do as I say, not as I do” gang rules..

If you think Idaho is “starting to change”, you obviously don’t live there!

The Declaration of Independence set us free, and we’ve been legislating, regulating, and taxing away our individual liberties ever since. Everyone has something, some vice, or indulgence that they enjoy. And everyone wants to make the OTHER guy’s vice illegal. Tobacco, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, porn, gambling, pork, prostitution, rap music, rock and roll, you name it, somebody wants to outlaw it. And all of these things do have their down sides, so maybe we need to turn America into one big prison, and make EVERYBODY do only healthy, government approved, activities.

Nothing can happen without God allowing it to happen. God is almighty, so God could have prevented drug prohibition if he wanted, but since drugs are prohibited, it means that God did allow the governing authorities to prohibit drugs. God can allow rulers to do bad things, since people can deserve bad things, but that does not necessarily means that in God’s eyes drug prohibition is a bad thing.
God would never allow any ruler to forbid Christians to drink wine, since wine in the Holy Supper symbolizes Christ’s blood, and from God’s word in the Bible follows that moderate use of intoxicants is not something sinful but rather something that can be blessed by God. Still, God may have good reasons for allowing drug prohibition, and in any event, Christians should under no circumstances oppose what God allows governing authorities to do (Rom.13:1- 6).

    •

Helloooooo: Iran and Saudi Arabia, among others, don’t allow Christians to drink wine.

    •

Junk Christianity noone deserved the. Pain of slavery. God was not in it just as God was not in the tempest!

    •

You are what we at Mensa call “Simple”. People like you are the reason america is in such bad shape. Go be brainwashed and regurgitate your retarded scripture elsewhere. This is about facts, not fables.

    •

God gives us free will. You can’t blame him for our mistakes. Men made prohibition, and men must take it away.

    •

So God thinks people deserve to be murdered? He could stop all murder?

    •

Maybe God also wants people to be thinkers and oppose what is a plant he clearly put here for a reason. A good reason.

God gave man original sin when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, the fruit gave them knowledge and reasoning. It’s not gods fault weed illegal it’s the choices that men and women have made for themselves, there is a reason that world peace is unobtainable, men and women reason and think only for themselves, but it is the selfless that will inherit the earth. God created life to be enjoyed by all of his sons and daughters, but greed and selfishness are temptations that drive us away from God. Our father doesn’t control our decisions he wants everyone to be different and learn on their own.

The bible says that God put these plants and trees on earth for man to eat as meat so as to heal and nourish the body. And you think Congress has the authority to overrule God!

      •

For all of you appealing to a “god” for your “reasoning”, realize this: god is imaginary and holds no sway with folks that have more than two brain cells to rub together.

    •

God gave man free will. If god was against it why did he make it, and gods version of wine is just grape juice, not what we have today. If god didnt want us to drink and drive, why did he make fossil fuels. The god stoy is a big loop hole. Also, if god wrote the bible through man, why didn’t he tell us the world was round?

    •

You say that he wouldn’t allow rules to forbid wine but please explain to me the prohibition time period, where NO ALCOHOL was allowed. LMAO this is why im atheist.

    •

Why wouldn’t God allow the pagan festival of Christmas to be banned? It has nothing to do with Christ. Unless your God is capitalism, which then you are correct Christmas will never be banned and there are plenty of reasons to “allow” the prohibition of weed

    •

The government does whatever they want! God doesn’t need to give them permission. God does not control what we do in this word, it is up to us to work that out

    •

You do realize that Thomas Aquina did prove that God existed by using Aristotle’s works. Aristotle was a Greek and at that time the Greeks were Polytheist, meaning they believed in more than one God. This made them Pagan. So Thomas Aquina used a Pagan to prove that God was real. He also proved that every other God out there was real as well.

  4.

Yep. America has really moved ahead allowing “minorities” to vote.

  5.

The underpinnings of cannabis prohibition are racist in origin. Another way to keep the government boot on the necks of our black and brown siblings and other ‘undesirables.’.

  6.

If you want to know how it became illegal, read just the first few chapters of: “Chasing The Scream”

Marijuana prohibition is seriously outdated and benefits no one except mobsters, lawyers and prisons-for-profit. It makes criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens, and wastes the resources of law enforcement that could be better used in handling real crime instead of harassing harmless marijuana smokers. Marijuana is medically beneficial to cancer patients and chronic pain sufferers and is far better for anxiety/pain/nausea control than most prescription drugs, which will rule and ruin your life. Additionally, the money a state could make off legalizing and taxing marijuana in the manner of cigarettes and alcohol – harmful yet legal drugs – is astronomical. No more deficits. The same traffic laws that control drunk drivers could easily apply – no greater number of impaired drivers. It makes long-overdue sense. Legalize it, America!

It all started with money. The hemp farms were making money off of cannabis and was wanting more land to grow it. Besides the hemp and medicine it provided, new discoveries were being made with paper products, biodegradables, food substances, and a growing fabric industry. The logging companies and cotton growers were losing their foot hold. They were being out bid by the hemp and cannabis growers on buying farm land. The different types of hemp and cannabis could be grown and cultivated in two season a year. Rotated with existing crops, and produced more fiber per acre than trees and cotton. Also, the whole plant could be used and needed no chemical assistance to grow or protect it from blights and bugs. If it was allowed to continue to grow, there would be less cotton and logging in this country. The monopolizers of those types of crops (Rockafellers, Carnegie, ect) were afraid to lose these extremely lucrative businesses and set a “worm” into the governments ears. They bet on the ignorance of the American people of the time and won. Now that the general population has been more informed than in the past 50 yrs, they can no longer hide the growing understanding of how this once great plant to flourish again in the market place. This is why you are seeing Big Business and Pharma trying to find a way to monopolize it again, but in their monitary benefit. Trying to trade mark serveral strains, buying up farm lands and trying foreclose on the small farmer. They know, if the small farmer can grow it, they will lose big money and the monopoly. The same with the tobacco companies. It all had and has to do with money.

    •

Close. The principle opposition to hemp farming came from Hearst, who had just purchased vast tracts of timberland for his pulp mills to support his growing newspaper empire. He had enough money to but the votes to demonize marijuana, which cut the competition for pulpwood.

Thanks, Johnny, for the history lesson. The truth is, at this point, I can’t watch the video. It feels so violent.
But I tweeted this page. One needs to know the backstory of how cannabis got its ‘reputation’ as a gateway drug.

Crooked politicians back in the 1930’s…… and they were replaced by more crooked politicians. Vote out ALL incumbents! They had their chance, and they chose to help nobody! They aren’t even helping our veterans that are asking for help. Fire ’em all!

did you know: it used to be required by federal law for farmers to grow a certain amount of hemp and cannabis? if the farmer did not grow it he faced a stiff fine or was expelled from the country. it was also used for legal tender! also read up on the “hemp for victory” campaign in WW2! Good Stuff! (no pun)

I know exactly how it became illegal. I have public court documents showing it. Its quite shocking & basically happened so the FBI could get more $$$

  20.

That’s not really the case they banned marijuana use in the 1900s to control the Mexican immigrants after Mexican Revolution then they legalized it because people claimed that African Americans became sexually abusive and violent towards white women became a way for them to control the population of immigrants and Americans

Go to this site it explains everything it wasn’t just all about money or taxation
