Hemp Milk Recipe

Below is a recipe that was sent to me by the Hemp History Week campaign:

Yield: 3 cups

Ingredients:

3 cups filtered water
1 cup shelled hemp seeds (AKA hemp hearts)
1 tablespoon brown rice syrup
pinch sea salt

Preparation:

1. Combine all of the ingredients in the blender and blend on high speed for 2 minutes.

2. Pour the blended liquid into a strainer lined with 2 thicknesses of cheesecloth set over a large mixing bowl or other container.

3. Allow the liquid to strain through the cloth. When most of the liquid is drained, you can pick up the cloth, twist the remaining out and “milk it.”

4. Refrigerate in an airtight, glass container for up to 3 days.

hemp hearts are shelled seeds, process them yourself or order online. They are one of the, if not THE, healthiest food on the planet.

leaves/buds can be ingested many different ways other than smoking – eating and vaporizing are likely the most popular. Eating cooked cannabis usually gives a high that last longer (4-6 hrs or a lot longer depending on tolerance, potency, eating on empty stomach, plus other various factors), yet takes longer to feel effects (30-60 mins or longer). Cooking with butter or coconut oil is recommended, using the least amt of butter possible, just covering the finely broken up bud. Some people cook for short amounts of time, 10-15 mins, while others recommend going 12-24 hrs. Do your own research, however it is understood to use very gentle heating, as the THC will be damaged at higher heats. Vaporizers have built in ‘lighters’ that heat buds enough so that vapors can be inhaled. The action and effects are similar to smoking (except inhaling vapors vs smoke), and they can be purchased at local head shops or online.
