kevin sabet tobacco web sites marijuanaAt the website for Kevin Sabet’s Project SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), there is an entire page dedicated to the scaremongering about Big Tobacco taking over a legal marijuana industry.

We know if it’s legalized, marijuana will be commercialized, too. A commercial marijuana industry will act just as the tobacco industry acts. Big Tobacco may even take over a marijuana industry once it’s up and running.

…there’s Altria, the parent company of Phillip Morris. It recently bought the Web domain names “AltriaCannabis.com” and “AltriaMarijuana.com.”

According to that “recently bought” link in Domain Name Wire, which claims to be the news source for the internet domain name industry, Altria fought to reclaim those domain names from an unknown registrant in Washington DC back in 2009.  Altria filed an arbitration proceeding to get the names from the person who was using them to paint the picture of a commercial marijuana industry that would act just as the tobacco industry acts.  Here is a snapshot of the page from January 2010:

Thank you for visiting our site to fight the legalization of Marijuana.

Our goal is to inform you about the new cases like the California Proposition 215 (1996) and California Senate Bill 420 (2003). These cases have made legal marijuana/cannabis for so called “medical use,” decriminalizing this dangerous narcotic and allowing less than upstanding members of society to become state sanctioned drug dealers, who profit from the misery of others.

Other states have since followed suit, and a virtual domino effect has thus transpired. As such, nearly 30% of our states have decriminalized marijuana/cannabis in one way or another. Now a new and greater threat is on the horizon as California Assembly Bill 390 proposed to completely legalize the sale and use of marijuana/ cannabis. We fear that this will likely cause a similar, although far more massive, domino effect, as was the case with decriminalization. Furthermore, even righteous states that oppose the legalization of drugs and continue to fight the good fight stand to be severely impacted by the passing of California’s Assembly Bill 390, as drug dealers will have unlimited access to marijuana/cannabis by simply traveling to California and other states that follow suit and decide legalize marijuana/cannabis.

Greater than the sum of all these fears is the premonition that, when made legal, “big business,” especially those “big businesses” that profit from poisoning our society and the destroying our youth with tobacco and alcohol, will engage in and ultimately control this “multi-billion dollar” industry, furthering the decline and destruction of America at a unfathomable rate. Thus it is the mission of this website to fight the legalization and usage of marijuana/cannabis and all other intoxicating, addicting, and illicit substances.

Both web sites now return only a blank page.

If memory serves correctly, between 2009-2011, Kevin Sabet was living and working in Washington DC as an adviser to Gil Kerlikowske, the Drug Czar.  Is it possible that Sabet built the AltriaMarijuana and AltriaCannabis sites?  Given the primitive HTML, it wasn’t built by a real web designer.  Is it possible that Altria merely fought to keep its brand name from being sullied by association with marijuana legalization?  Given the lack of any new sites at those domains, it doesn’t look like Alria wants anything to do with marijuana.

“Is it possible that Sabet built the AltriaMarijuana and AltriaCannabis sites?”
No, Kevin Sabet couldn’t register a domain name to save his life! Remember the spoofed SAM sites?

I just don’t understand what Kevin Sabet’s deal is. What did cannabis ever do to him? This guy is the walking reincarnation of Harry Anslinger himself! He probably thinks that taking the losing side of this issue will increase his visibility.

Kevin Sabet is a self serving political prick. The more we talk about him, the more he wins.

May his name be blotted out forever. And let us say: Amen.

Sabet is a liar and I revealed him as such in our debate. He said the traffic accident death/medical marijuana state study which found a significant decrease in traffic accident fatalities following the enactment of medical marijuana laws was a “working paper” that “was not peer-reviewed” and then, this is where he blatantly lied, he said that it has been “discredited.” What a deceptive slimy sleaze bag Sabet is, saying that the study was “discredited” was an out and out lie because I then confronted him with an email from the lead researcher who wrote that the study had been accepted at the very prestigious Journal of Law and Economics for publication. He is doing what he can to preserve reefer madness and prohibition by pretending that he is reasonable but he is just another deceptive sleaze.

Shame on you for resorting to such attacks Clint. I was at the debate you are referring to and you would not stop to even let kevin speak. You now are just resorting to nasty attacks. I may not fully agree with Kevin but your harsh style gets you nowhere.

That guy sounds like a real douche bag! NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, we can throw some seeds in the ground and grow our own! Fuck Sabet and all of his thoughts!

Sabet (now referred to as Puppet) is just trying to protect his own career, just ignore him.

Clearly we are winning the cannabis debate and I can’t see Puppet or anyone like him changing the momentum in favor of prohibition. If we want to get rid of Puppet, just don’t give him any attention. The more sites reference him, the more he’ll show up on search engines.

Of course tobacco companies are going to get into the cannabis business, so will a lot of other corporations (beer, wine, food). As long as I have some seeds, soil and light I won’t be buying any of their products.

I have never purchased Budweiser products, I prefer microbrews (I drink about once or twice a year). I buy organic and stay away from processed foods. Corporate products are mostly inferior. I expect that whatever comes out of the corporate cannabis market will be much like the crap they put out now.

There will always be an alternative culture associated with cannabis that will grow, share and trade in cannabis. I can see flea (roach) markets forming where hemp and cannabis products are available through a bartering system right along side organic fruits and vegetables, that’s where you’ll find me.

Yes, that’s it! From now on we don’t say his name. Johnny Green needs to stop blogging about this guy or we all come up with a funny code name for him. Maybe SAMbet o’ douchey.

Nothing misleading about big tobacco coming. You are all denying what will inevitably happen. People like Kevin will be vindicated later.

Kevin is a drug war profiteer and career scumbag. I wish that asshole the worst.

No, nothing misleading about that at all. It’s the American way. It’s called FREE enterprise. I’m not denying anything. Yes, people will CONTINUE to sell pot for profit. But now, we’ll make tax dollars off of it. It beats paying to throw people in prison for it. And don’t say no one goes to prison for it, because if no one goes to prison for it, then it shouldn’t be illegal. This has turned into a little game that people who are frightened by our governments constant lies about pot play with their children (and everyone else). They’re so afraid that ‘our children’ are going to all start smoking pot and turn into some kind of pot zombie or something. What all these people need to do, is sit down at a table with 3 people who are high, and 3 other people who are drunk. Sit down and observe them all for a while. Once they realize the drunk idiots are FAR more dangerous and at-risk than the people who are high and still in control of all their faculties, maybe they’ll come around. But probably not. Most of these people have built up images of people who smoke pot that are going to be hard to break down. Law Enforcement, for instance, seem to think that all pot smokers are ‘cheech and chong’. They are constantly making jokes about pot users amongst themselves. Remind you of anything? Reminds me of racism. This is NOT a war on drugs. This is a war on culture, plain and simple. Marijuana is 100% SAFE AND NON-TOXIC, PERIOD! You can’t say that about alcohol or tobacco.
