cannabidiol cbd cannabis marijuanaThe marijuana industry can be a shady place at times, which is something that I’ve stated over and over. There are more ‘snake oil salesmen’ in the marijuana industry right now than I can stand. There are also more haters in the industry that I think there is in any other industry. People, for various reasons, want to throw other people under the bus, stab people in the back, or in a lot of cases, want to blatantly rip off or bash other people in the industry to try to get ahead. A case that highlights my point is the recent media buzz and related lawsuit involving Medical Marijuana Inc..

You may have seen an article recently that called out multiple cannabis companies with CBD based products. Project CBD called out Medical Marijuana Inc., HempMeds, and Kannaway as being ‘Hemp Oil Hustlers.’ I encourage you to read the article so you can see what was published, do your own research, and draw your own conclusions. I have never tried any of those company’s products, so I’m not sure what the case is. I will say that I have seen a lot of critical social media posts about those companies from some very experience, reputable people in the industry, for what that’s worth. The article has resulted in Medical Marijuana Inc. filing a huge lawsuit, per Marijuana Business Daily:

Medical Marijuana Inc. has filed a lawsuit in California against several businesses – including a prominent cannabis testing lab – over statements made about its hemp-based products.

The publicly traded company is seeking at least $100 million in damages, saying the comments caused a huge dip in its stock price and hurt its reputation.

The suit comes just days after a CBD-focused website published an investigative report raising serious questions about the safety of hemp oil developed by Medical Marijuana Inc. and its subsidiary HempMeds. The report cites lab tests that reportedly revealed “significant levels of toxic solvents” in samples submitted by individuals who said they became sick after ingesting the products.

Medical Marijuana Inc. said the report “is based upon false, inaccurate and misleading statements.”

As I learned in several law courses I took in college, the ultimate defense in such a lawsuit is the truth. If the parties that are being sued made true statements, no matter how damaging, than they will win. If they embellished or made outright false statements, than they should be very worried. Have you purchased products from any of the companies named above? If so, how do you feel about them? Keep in mind, your comments will likely be read by those companies, and they have deep pockets, so proceed with caution.

  1.

Is it a good idea to buy stocks in this company now since prices are low?

  2.

Ethyl Alcohol is a fairly well tolerated solvent in small quantities.

  3.

selling products made from industrial hemp(stalk)?! That’s just the epitome of “dirty and low” these companies are en example of whats wrong in this industry as a whole. And one of those companies represented by that one mentioned in the article, was gifted THE federal “cannabinoids as neuroprotectants” That’s a bad sign how they plan to deal with the cannabis issue in the future.

I can see that you are being very careful in what you are actually saying here, you intentionally did not mention any company names in what you just said (almost cryptic), but I know exactly who and what you are referring to in your statement… I on the other hand was not afraid to mention actual names in my statement because everything I said can be backed up with actual documented proof, so I’m not worried about any repercussions to what I point out in my statement. You will also notice that unlike your fake user name, I use my real name, because I am not afraid of the powers that be of this world.

here is my statement again, just in case you missed it the first time I posted it:

here’s something you all might find very interesting, if you Google KannaWay (this company did not even exist in 2013), you can trace this company back to the parent company through a 5 year agreement that they made with each other in early 2014, which states that KannaWay will do all the marketing (MLM aka multi-level marketing scheme) and distribute (internet based) of the product for the parent company named KannaLife Sciences Inc.

if you Google KannaLife you will see that in 2011 KannaLife signed an agreement giving them the “EXCLUSIVE” rights to patent # 6630507… another thing that is also very interesting in this situation is the fact that a Google search showed actual proof that KannaLife Sciences Inc. did not even exist in the calendar year prior to the signing of the agreement that gave them the exclusive rights to patent number 6630507.

now here’s the real kicker folks, if you do a Google search on patent number 6630507 you will clearly see that it is in fact owned by our very own United States Government as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington DC… that’s right, you heard it correctly.

so in fact, the United States Government aka President Obama, the DEA, FDA, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the rest of the Federal Government is not only in bed with KannaLife Science/KannaWay, but they’re actually making a profit off of the shitty low quality LOW THC – CBD snake oil extract infused line of products that this company is selling to
      the American public!!!

Don’t believe me, then do the Google search yourself and see the actual proof in black and white.

***can anyone say government corporate collusion!?!?!

okay J C Uncapher(sounds like a pretty strange “real name”) mr Big Balls. Just cause u can back up all your statements, doesnt guarantee much except that they cant sue you. Being backed up by money AND the feds, these guys may be morally bankrupt, but most likely DONT deal with all their annoying little problems in perfectly legal-beagle way. Yes, this is what I was referring to, but thats good that you articulated things for me, Mr. Big Balls. I hope your ego feels good since you had a chance to post the SAME comment twice to prove how “unafraid” you are. I hope you never have to find out all the ways people who control that much money and politics CAN get to you if they want.
p.s. I have alot of gratitude to the Creator, realizing that I got dealt a better hand how I was made(able to think), than someone who is so enamored with their big balls that they have to show them off.
pp.s nickame’s been “Reefer” ever since grade school(before the internet). Fake username? Hardly. But typical of some1 who calls 2 initials his/her “real name” and needs to step on others to elevate him/herself.

I’m so glad I could help you out you ball-less duchebag!!! can you say chicken-shit… just cause you don’t have the balls to say it like it is, don’t bust mine for making you look like a little pussy!!!

And I take back the part about hoping you never have to find out.. maybe a little “corporate surveillance” would do you a little good if you’re too STUPID to heed the warning in Jonny G’s. last sentence of the posted article, and the circumspect nature of my comment. Its dumbfucks like you that take the heat off the rest of us. THANX A MILLION, DICKHEAD.

If I were MMI, I’d be really careful. I’m not sure they’ll want to take on a lab in court. That being said, it may not be their intent.

  5.

geez, allow big business and greed to take control of this movement and we will all be addicted to the additives in commercial cannabis or die in 5-10 years from profiteering ex-prohibitionists that put safety and responsibility last. I have no clue whether the lab or the business is in the right on this matter but I do know that there is a portion of the reform movement that will exploit every shortcut available to make a buck. I will stay with the small mom and pop boutique shops for as long as I can afford it. god help us if walmart gets an idea to add imported cannabis to its tobacco checkout lane.

  6.

Odd, that more testing wasn’t accomplished in support for the thrust of this article. “The snake oil biz gets rough sometimes,” (s) ‘Greg’

  7.

Most of these companies are nothing but “pump and dump” stocks.

  8.

I’m not aware of any “Toxic” solvents that are used to freebase the cannabinoids.

  9.

Medical Marijuana Inc is the parent company of The Hemp Network. 5 years ago I “pre-enrolled” and paid to be a part of the Hemp Network, a program designed to help promote and distribute hemp products. Nothing ever came of it despite my payment, and after a few years, the site came down. I tried to get in touch to no avail. Do you know how many people spent over $100 to support a fake company? If a division of MMI conned people, it’s likely the parent company did too.

Please note, the industrial hemp products from the Hemp Network had nothing to do with medicinal cannabis or the CBD testing cited in the lawsuit… but the damage to MMI’s reputation happened due to their other many faults, and it began long ago. As its a publicly traded company, maybe a few lawsuits should be thrown back their way.

I went a little further and contacted the National Institute of Health (NIH) myself to better understand their relationship with the government and what was ‘exclusive’ about Kannaway/Kannalife Sciences ‘license’ and if what they were claiming to have license to do was (lawfully ship CBD nationwide, even to non MMJ states) was what they were licensed to do. The response I got (which I will look for and post when I find) showed that (in my humble opinion):

      1. Kannaway representatives were misleading ‘we the people’ in their social media posts implying they had current exclusive/license for world distribution of CBD products with the feds, (i will also look for public posts they made (I copied) saying this)

      2. That they have exclusives on a tiny little research segment of the federal patent, and that it’s research — (FDA supervised/compliant and will take years) not product or product distribution exclusives now.

      3. The ‘license’ for research they posses is not for the whole plant (or necessarily plant material). It seems to me like it could be synthetic.

      4. Anyone can apply for a research grant from NIH

      5. They were approved by NIH in Aug 2014, not when Kannaway started marketing themselves about 8 months ago.

      6. Their research is not near conclusion as no FDA approval takes less than 2 months.

I watched their ‘commercials’ back in the spring of 2014 where they seem to be selling oil yet ‘confusing’ their link to their gov. patent as connected to whatever they are currently selling being government approved and/or licensed. That does not seem to be true.

Found my inquiry and the NIH response: (when I went to post it on The Kannaway thread to clarify their posts at the time–the thread was deleted and so was the FB page of the woman who I quote):

      From: Cannabis Press Association
      Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2014 4:31 AM
      To: Winfield, Suzanne (NIH/NIMH) [E]
Subject: Media Inquiry: Does your agency ‘license’ the sales/distribution of CBD to publicly traded companies?

According to Cara Kokel, who is marketing Kannaway on social media:

“OurCBD rich products are produced by HempMedsPx, winner of 4 Cannibas Cupsand funded by MJNA Holdings, a publicly traded entity. Kannaway has been given a license from the National Institute of Health to distribute CBD legally to all 50 states” and:

“giving Kannaway licensing from the NIH – Office of Technology Transfer to distribute CBD rich hemp products as a neuroprotectant, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory,”

I understand federal law bans all parts, compounds, extracts etc. of the cannabis plant.
I understand the feds own the patent (6630507) on CBD.
I understand the farm bill legalized industrial hemp in states that legalize hemp.
I understand CBD can be extracted from the hemp plant.
I see states like Utah (who do not have legal medical cannabis or hemp) who are legalizing CBD only.
I also see dozens of companies claiming to be shipping/selling CBD legally in all 50 states.

Please help resolve this confusion for everyone’s behalf. .

Is CBD legal nationwide and does your agency license businesses to do distribute/sell CBD?
If not, are you aware of a license from the federal government to do this?
If so, how can people apply for a license? and is there a fee?
And does MJNA Holdings or/HempMedsPX or/Kannaway have a license from your agency to distribute CBD?
Does any other company have license from you to distribute/sell CBD?

      Thank you,

      Cannabis Press Association (CPA)
      cannabispressassociation.com

      Dear Ms. Chippi,

      Thank you for your message.

HHS holds a patent issued in 2003 for the use of cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants: US Patent# 6,630,507.

This patent describes the therapeutic potential for cannabinoid chemical compounds that are structurally similar to THC, but without its psychoactive properties, thereby treating specific conditions without the adverse side effects associated with smoked marijuana. It should be noted that the patent is for the use of cannabinoid compounds similar to and including those that naturally occur in marijuana (cannabis), but not for the whole marijuana plant.

NIH granted an exclusive license to the patent to KannaLife to develop drugs — based on the antioxidant properties
of non-psychoactive cannabinoid compounds (not the actual marijuana plant) — for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (brain damage caused by a diseased liver). The company will have to conduct clinical trials and obtain FDA approval to bring the drug to the market. Any further information about the license would have to be obtained from KannaLife. The patent allows for ongoing research by other investigators and other companies may also apply for licenses to use this patented technology to treat other neurological diseases where antioxidant properties of cannabinoid drugs may be beneficial.

      We hope this is helpful.

I feel bad for Ms. Murray at CannLabs — now she has to spend money defending her lab in this lawsuit.
(There’s an in-depth article on this subject on 420magazine.)

  12.

I do not want to process or make any of my own products. Until owning, growing, and processing all of this stuff is free and clear of any question by any government I will let a company bring to market what they can. I don’t want vials of oils in my refrigerator. I don’t want to experiment in my kitchen I don’t have time. Who is going to test this stuff? The government is just now funding testing and investigation (above the counter). We need as many people as we can involved in this – this way it will be hard to hijack the usage and “manufacture” of products. I do use two of the products from Kannaway. I like them, the salve worked perfectly for my hand issue. I am working with someone on their ankles to see if it will help with correcting, possibly healing an issue. So, unless these products are like the cream from the “Cat woman” movie – I am willing to try. You have to sign for the products. At first shipping was a little slow to me, but I realized they are starting up. There is constant communication as a “networker”, they are educating users and networkers in a very appealing way, and there are several people vested in this movement working with them. They need some adjustment in their marketing, to appeal to all customers, but I am willing to give them a chance.

On a natural vein, I smell the products and I don’t feel nauseated like I do for many other main steam products. I don’t think their formulation is perfect, and I do not know whether the hemp oil is actually an active ingredient in the products – but I am willing to try them, especially if they are working to position themselves to bring to market more important products like tinctures and oils and salves and capsules that do have pharmaceutical quality. Also, I have no problems with MLM companies – I always think I would like to sell – but I am not a marketer like that, so I try products – I like I use – I don’t like I won’t become a customer. Maybe this one, I will sell.

Oh and ughm, who says everything you read on the internet is … true … including … reviews and comments?

AHO! Corporate greed has infiltrated the culture of medicine keepers. I fell into being a brand ambassador having my medicinal liscense in Hawaii, only having to leave Hawaii for the lava flow. I wanted my medicine which I have used to heal myself past pulmonary embolism and cancer withou pharmaceuticals. I began using my name to promote Kannaway knowing my medicine but not the business. I am the grower. After learning the business and researching how ugly and corporate MJNA are, in addition to the story of Mykayla, I opted out. My up line carefully directed me to support claiming defamation lawsuits were filed. I asked to see the rebuttal.

Her Upline directed me to an online rebuttal from CannaVest. I had to laugh because the tone of communication quickly slithered into typical snake games! I let her know my intelligence in the matter and that CannaVest is owned by the same people as MJNA, KannaScience, et.al. Ethical Business??

I carefully advised my Upline of her FULL DISCLOSURE and of course ERRORS and OMISSIONS and she deferred her conversation to corporate and support. As of yet I have not recieved my refund on investment. I caught this early on without procuring any business THANK GOD! I will return back home and grow back in the gardens!! NO WAY KANNAWAY! Just Say No!

This article was written in 2014 and it still stands truer today in 2015!! Kannaway snake oil, crap vaporizers and pyramid schemes are going even stronger. So many lives ruined and nothing we can do. Kannaway teamed up with Hollywood schill Cheryl Shuman of “Beverly hills cannabis club” (which doesn’t exist but takes donations?) to steal TV airtime and much more from Brave Mikayla!! I was irate about her stupid plug of kannaway crap than she lobbied for Mikayla. And BTW Ricki lake approached Mikaylas family to appear on the show and when Shuman heard about it she then contacted the family claiming to be a professional media consultant (NOT a kannaway dealer) to help navigate the media!!! Turns out Cheryl navigated her way right on to TV and cut Mikaylas time very very short. Hope karma gets this ugly groups soon! Mikayla isn’t the only dying kid they’ve ripped off, as a matter of fact I believe they are trying to promote some poopr family that doesn’t know who they really are.
Also for the rest of the corrupted companies, they get away with selling tainted oils claiming to be hemp or cannabis because of no regulatory checks are in place to weed out this deadly corruption. Many more will get sick and die until we the ppl can finally grow our own and get these chumps out of our lives for good!!! No more red tape, just let me grow my own meds so I know what’s in it! The bigger the grow the harder it is to maintain, but they wanna make bigger bucks so they use pesticides as it’s cheap and easy….but also very dangerous. Haven’t we learned from puting fluoride in our water supply? Using “breakthrough chemicals” with no real testing or knowing the long term effects on humans and animals!!

Hey Mr. Green, I dare you to do a “where are they article” but really dig deep!! He’s cannadads article featured in time signals on Mikayla and the evil Shuman! http://www.tokesignals.com/cannabis-patient-brave-mykaylas-dad-says-just-avoid-cheryl-shuman/ Oh and as an EX-chapter leader for Moms for marijuana(which Cheryl now owns- want deets ask me!), I also ask you to beware of certain “nonprofit” groups. I’m already tired of this fuqn $hit! Did you see what happened with the ‘christian’ brothers Gupta/CNN featured on Charlotte’s Web? People moved their kids to CO and got put on long waiting lists. Meanwhile, the brothers saw more profit in CBD only tinctures, over the CW they were selling in their dispensary. This is because CBD without the thc can be sold legally in all 50 states. Profit over all, typical in the good ol US. So those patients were left high and dry (another dude was growing and trying to help these patients, but he was doing this alone…hard to keep up). The patients feel abandoned, yet only a handful (maybe 2) articles follow that up!

The ‘brothers’ were trying to get more land and permission to grow tons of hemp, not Charlotte’s Web. I read they are in bed with lobbyists/politician,s and I can see this is about profit, not seizures anymore. Total bs. They have even re-branded their compromised CBD only version of the tincture and making it seem like it’s the same beneficial version you saw on Gupta’s special! Liars, deceivers! They’ve spread sooo much confusion in the industry by dong this. They’d better not ever try to take the People’s right to grow away. Beer lovers homebrew all the time. Enough with trying to control citizens’ bodies. I think there will be hell to pay if they insist on this path. Grow yer own. I am comparing strains that are high cbd at the moment. I saw that Rare Dankness makes one called Harlox, and they have a good rep. The harlox I tried had crazy amounts of resin/keif on it. I’m not waiting on these industry jerks to grow a heart. Peace.

  17.

MLMs and cannabis will never belong together in my life. What shady bs! Glad I learned homegrown is much better (and it’s not that hard). I KNOW mine is organic and not some shite crop from China. I cannot believe the prices of the non beneficial crap I’m seeing pop up all over. If you have blind faith in companies and your government, then have at it! But at least send it to a few labs before forking over your money.
