new approach missouri medical marijuanaI received the following campaign update from the New Approach Missouri campaign. It will take a serious effort to meet the deadline considering how many signatures will need to be gathered by the deadline, but there is definitely still time:

Dear Johnny,

We’re rapidly approaching the May 8th deadline to gather the 160,000 signatures needed to qualify for the November ballot. So far, we’ve gathered 50,000 signatures for our medical cannabis initiative. It’s a great start, but we need to finish strong. Here’s the bottom line: volunteers could make or break this campaign.

If you can help gather signatures in your area, all you need to do is attend a quick in-person or online signature gathering training event. Click here to find a training event near you.

Time is running out and we can’t do this without you,

John Payne
Political Director, New Approach Missouri

This is baffling, the grass roots were ready to start collecting signatures a year and a half ago. Instead, they spent 16 months polling 10 different versions, and now have only a few weeks to get signatures. When I questioned that last July (literally last summer) I was told “professional orgs can get that number of signatures in 8 weeks”

AND NOW THEY TELL US IT’S UP TO THE GRASS ROOTS?!?!? Wtf?? I’m ready to pull my monthly donation, so sad.

NAM has ran TV ads already. So they spent money on ads rather than on getting signatures?!? Oh my lord.
