New Jersey’s Senate gave unanimous approval today to Senate Bill 3110, a proposal to legalize industrial hemp. A companion measure, Assembly Bill 2415, has already been approved through two committees, and now awaits a full Assembly vote, which could come as soon as this week. If approved through the Assembly, the measure will go to Governor Chris Christie for final consideration.

Under the proposed law, those wanting to cultivate industrial hemp in New Jersey would be authorized to do so once they become licensed with the state’s Secretary of Agriculture.

According to recent congressional research, the U.S. imports roughly half a billion dollars worth of hemp from other countries – primarily China and Canada – while retaining the illegality of its cultivation. According to the same research, the hemp market consists of over 25,000 various products.

  1. indeed, lots of problems for two sides to debate but we really need to rid ourselves of political affiliation before we will be able to hear one another. We are doing as programmed, divide whilst we are conquered.

  2. We should try to get away with the bashing of the republican party and democrat party. It is like the media to be honest, all they do is talk shit to one another. Don’t buy into that drama, don’t let “the man” get ya. Rather than a title, I call it a gang, look at them for not what party they reside with, but for what morals and values they have. Look at their track record of yes or no voting. See if they are taking money, false information, and lying about stuff. My point is who the hell cares about the party affiliation. In my opinion the media is very dramatic and fake, very fake. Lets not be like them, be the opposite. If it opens up with “democrat so and so or republican so and so did this”, just don’t read it. That mindset is negative, we should all be working together.

  3. Then why didn’t he update the law to allow children to use CBD? I read an article where he was saying he wouldn’t change it. Or did the media get me again? I have read and heard all negatives about him and cannabis.

  4. You’re wrong. Christie supports medical marijuana. He even came out and said that it has undeniable medical benefits. Also Id like I’d like to point out that it’s not republicans that are against legalization, just old ignorant people on both sides of the aisle. You haven’t seen any leading democrats come forward to push through legislation, nor have you seen republicans; however, libertarians have ardently supported legalization and deregulation.

  5. If there is one thing Republicans like, it’s money, not to mention revenue for the state. Once they see the profit to made and the jobs created (who will in turn pay taxes), they will be for it.

  6. Are there a % of republicans that support cannabis? Are there a % of democrats that don’t support cannabis? Does The Weed Blog support comments like yours? Or do they just allow them?

  7. I agree that Christie will most likely not agree with it. Most republicans are against marijuana, and I’m staring to notice a growing trend here. And they say republicans are more open minded than democrats. Ohhhh-kaaay… Who was the one who started the war on drugs? An ignorant republican name Richard Nixon. (Please insert bashing here.)

  11. Christie won’t agree with it, he is against any form of cannabis. He looks like he has been having the munchies though.
