marijuana legalization support gallup pollBy Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director

Fifty-three percent of Americans say that the “use of marijuana should be legal,” according to nationwide survey data published today by the Pew Research Center.

“Support for marijuana legalization is rapidly outpacing opposition,” pollsters opined, acknowledging that Americans’ support for legalizing marijuana has risen some 10 percentage points over the past five years. Forty-four percent of respondents oppose legalization in the 2015 poll and three percent are undecided.

The poll is the latest in a series of national surveys showing majority support for legalizing and regulating marijuana.

Millennials (68 percent) are most likely to support legalization while most of those age 70 or older do not (29 percent). Most Republicans (39 percent) and Hispanics (40 percent) also remain opposed to legalizing marijuana.

Nearly two-thirds of respondents (62 percent) oppose the use of marijuana in public. By contrast, most respondents (57 percent) said that they would not be bothered if a “business selling marijuana” opened in their neighborhood.

I’ve been smoking weed since I was a kid and I never even voted on it myself I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there that have never voted and are pro legalization, which means the numbers are probably a lot higher on the percentage of Americans wanting to legalize.

Yep ,,Grass is sort of a religious right anyway…I have been on the bandwagon since 72, be careful of the STUDY …..it will take decades to reach here in the Midwest….

Millenials can kiss my ass! Entitled whiny libs they are. They may be in support of it now, but when they see straight white christan men enjoying it, they’ll be against it mark my words. Marijuana will hurt their “feelings” so they’ll sic Obama or that cunt Hilliary to take my weed just like guns.

You sound crazy when you talk about people taking your guns. Or that “when they see straight white christan men enjoying it, they’ll be against it mark my words.”

    •

Didn’t your mother teach you any manners? Name calling, like you calling Hillary a cunt shows how mature your thinking process is, patriotpuffer.Let me ask you one question. This is just a Yes or No question, so it should be pretty easy for you Has anyone from the White House tried to come to your house and take your guns since 2008? Didn’t THINK so. Have a nice day. :-)

You sound brain dead ! Are you sure you’re not DRUNK ? At last count Obama hasn’t taken ANYONE’S guns (unfortunately).

      •

To bad he hasn’t. It would be much better if only criminals had guns. In the same way it is better when only criminals have weed. And for the impaired /sarc.

Prohibition doesn’t work. Guns, weed, 32 oz soft drinks. Whatever.

It is amazing that people who can see the failure of one Prohibition can’t generalize. The gun people (generally) don’t like the pot people. And vice versa. Each believes “this Prohibition but not that one”. Nuts.

We don’t always agree but you are so right on this. I do not own guns but it is our right to have them. Criminals can get guns and to out law them would just create a new cartel that just supplies guns. Oh wait there already are gun runners.

    •

Not me. I would be thrilled to see white Christian men enjoy weed.

    •

Dude you need to change your name there is nothing patriotic in your comment. What you do have is women issues. If you don’t like her dont vote for her, you do vote don’t you?

53%+45%+3%=101%, what stoner did that math?

  4.

The sad news is that 62% oppose use in public. Cannabis MUST be legal anywhere and everywhere alcohol is. Nightclubs, restaurants, concerts, sporting events, parks and beaches. If anyone can imbibe in booze at these locations, and become an obnoxious public menace, a mellow stoner should have the same equal protection under the law ! No more HIDING IN OUR HOMES in order to partake of this gentle herb ! Regulate cannabis JUST LIKE alcohol !

I like grass!! Even my 92 year old dad (farmer)said If a rabbit will nibble on it and a deer will wipe it out, then mother nature is singing something! ha, and that was back in 1972!! My first real plant find the grass opposed /is a republican rhetoric but Hilllary worries me with her MORE STUDY baloney////

And what was it Johnny, 13% think it should be illegal because it’s illegal? Wow. Lotta people sure can’t think for themselves.

“Truth never triumphs — its opponents just die out. Thus, Science advances one funeral at a time” Max Planck

Add public policy to the list. One million Prohibitionists die every year.

    Where is weed day at?
