alzheimers marijuanaBy Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director

The administration of liquid cannabis extracts containing THC is associated with the mitigation of various symptoms of Alzheimer’s-related agitation and dementia, according to observational trial data published online ahead of print in The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Israeli investigators assessed the use of cannabis oil as an adjunct pharmacotherapy treatment in ten Alzheimer’s disease patients over a period of several weeks. Researchers reported that drug administration was associated with a significant reduction in patients’ symptom severity scores. Specifically, cannabis oil ingestion corresponded with decreased levels of aggression, irritability, apathy, and delusions.

Investigators concluded, “Adding medical cannabis oil to Alzheimer’s disease patients pharmacotherapy is safe and a promising treatment option.”

The administration of dronabinol (oral synthetic THC in pill form) has previously been reported to reduce Alzheimer’s-induced agitation and improve weight gain, while preclinical studies have theorized that cannabinoids may be neuroprotective against the onset of the disease.

An abstract of the study, “Safety and efficacy of medical cannabis oil for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia: An open label, add-on, pilot study,” appears online here.

And the non believers say it causes brain damage. But then non believers don’t know sh*t. But lies and corruption.

This is extremely important. Scientists have known for years that THC is extremely effective against Alzheimer’s, more effective than any drugs approved for treating it at that time (and perhaps even now) but the government has failed to take action to remove Marijuana from Schedule 1.

The President needs to take immediate action to get Marijuana removed from Schedule 1. Please call (202) 456-1111 and ask that Marijuana be removed from Schedule 1 immediately.
    Google Marijuana Therapeutic Index.
Marijuana has an unmatched safety profile, much safer than NSAIDS or Tylenol, for example.
There’s no reason for it to be on any restriction Schedule at all.

This is extremely important. Medical Marijuana is an incredibly potent anti-inflammatory that easily crosses the blood brain barrier but doesn’t cause bleeding.
That’s the “holy grail” for treating things like Concussions and TBI as well.

When the courts refused to intervene to protect patients, they said it was because there wasn’t enough ‘scientific’ evidence that cannabis is medicine. It was bullshit back then, and it just gets more preposterous with every new published study that shows it most certainly is medicine. Shame on the politicians, shame on the courts.

The fact that Marijuana is still on Schedule 1 is completely and totally unacceptable. Please call or write the WH at least once a day until the President takes action and get everyone you know to do the same and to pass the idea on. With luck, the effort will go viral and the President will take action. Medical Marijuana saves lives. This is a MORAL issue!

As you’ve made clear, it’s urgent that we find out out what cannabis is capable of doing to fight cancer, not just treat its symptoms. This exciting study is focusing on the symptoms of Alzheimer’s but the possibility that it can help prevent the disease exists as well, and that needs urgent study too. Alzheimer is as dreadful as cancer. The medical research establishment is still being sleepy and creepy about this.
