WHY I SUPPORT MEDICAL MARIJUANA:
____________________________________

1. MARIJUANA IS GOOD MEDICINE

* Scientific and medical studies by the National Academy of Science have shown marijuana to be a safe and effective medicine for the treatment of glaucoma, epilepsy, muscle spasticity, arthritis, anxiety, depression, the symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and narcotics, and the nausea, vomiting and appetite loss associated with chemotherapies.
* SC legally recognized the medicinal value of marijuana in 1980 (South Carolina Controlled Substances Therapeutic Research Act of 1979).

2. WE ARE WASTING ENORMOUS SUMS OF MONEY ON A FAILED WAR ON DRUGS

* The billions of dollars spent prosecuting and imprisoning sick people in South Carolina and across the nation could be better spent on programs emphasizing treatment, education and rehabilitation.

3. THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT MEDICAL MARIJUANA

* Currently, 18 states, and the District of Columbia, protect seriously ill patients from state conviction for using medical marijuana.
* National polls indicate that at least 70% of United States citizens support medical marijuana when prescribed by a physician (AARP, Time Magazine, Gallup)
* SC polls indicate that 71% of respondents believe drug abuse should be addressed with treatment rather than incarceration (Global Strategy Group, 2002)
* We even had a state senator introduce a medical marijuana bill in 2007 but he died of a stroke before the bill could be passed. (S. 220 – Sen. William Mescher, R-Berkley Co. )

4. MARIJUANA IS LESS TOXIC THAN ASPIRIN AND CAUSES FEWER DEATHS (AND IS LESS ADDICTIVE) THAN TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, AND CAFFEINE.

*These facts are based on hundreds of research studies. For more info, visit: http://tinyurl.com/gotmedicine

About Jay Smoker

I have been smoking marijuana for almost twenty years and I have no plans to stop anytime soon. My life was turned upside down in 2009 after getting arrested and tossed in jail for being in the wrong state with legal medical marijuana. I got fed up, and I now devote all my time to ending this insanity.I am responsible for the technical side of this project, but try to chip in when I can, either with syndicated articles or original content.Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.Feel free to email. any questions or concerns. Peace!

Marijuana has never been linked to any deaths ever.

“INSANITY” – pick out ten guys, put them in a house with a keg of beer – see how long it takes for that party to spill out to the street and to the close by taverns – - – now take the same ten guys with a “QP” and put them in the same house! “I rest my case”

    • adams

please do, and record the fight at the keg party, ill watch it and laugh while im in the clouds

Yes, decriminalization is the one and only reasonable and rational option for our state. I guess it’s got to start with medicinal. So they argue that it is harmful and that it is a gateway drug to harder and dangerous druguse. I know that marijuana can be safely consumed! Marijuana can be smoked through a waterpipe to eliminate the effect of the tar that it contains and can also be safely consumed through ingestion. The only reason that marijuana would be considered a gateway drug is because it is in the hands of street dealers who are likely to introduce some coniseurs to harder and extremely harmful substances! Besides, our nation needs a safer alternative to not only illegal and controlled substances but also to legal substances that are already known to be seriously harmful and deadly to the public. All I can say is this, if our state does not open it’s eyes and see marijuana for what it is and make a big change for the better I will not continue to live and work in South Carolina! I will move to a state in which I am not held back and persecuted, am not under constant danger of facing criminal charges and in which I am not required to comply with unjust employer drug testing which seems to single out the marijuana coniseur. I suppose if all of South Carolina’s marijuana coniseurs were to speak up and let our statehouse know that we mean business maybe they would see the light. We are hardworking taxpaying citizens and if they do not make this change for the better then we will pack our bags and take our tax dollars, income tax, property tax, sales tax and so on with us to a state that will not persecute us for something that is way less harmful to our bodies and to society in general than alcohol and cigarettes. Imagine this, if this state suddenly declared alcohol illegal while another state allowed it’s use, how many alcohol users would pack their bags and move to suit their lifestyle? Check the stats and see what you can find out about marijuana and while you are doing that consider this…. Can something that is so harmful actually be labeled medicinal?!?! Jenni

  • PERSON!

Okay, is guy just admitted to being hooked on Marijuana, smoking it, NOT FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES! Haven’t any of you people thought about how people can become ADDICTED to Marijuana? They could be prescribed it and *BOOM* addicted to Marijuana! This thing is SO STUPID!

    • green

okay so get prescribed oxy codone and see if you’re not hooked to opiates thanks doc

  • DMoney

I know I’m months late on this but you need to sell SC on legalization by pandering to our libertarian leanings. The plain truth is the government has no business telling adults what they can and cannot do with their bodies as long as it doesn’t immediately hurt another.
