barack obama marijuanaCongressman Earl Blumenauer has a ‘take action’ effort going on. Earl Blumenauer sent a letter to President Obama with the below language. You can add your name at this link here:

It is time, Mr. President, for you to take the next logical step, cementing your legacy in history on drug reform and a fairer criminal justice system. Call for an end to marijuana prohibition and de-schedule marijuana. The House and Senate are reluctant to take bold action to legalize marijuana at the federal level, but you don’t have to wait. Under your leadership by de-scheduling marijuana, you will trigger monumental reform, allowing states to continue their pioneering efforts and putting pressure on Congress to take additional actions to tax and regulate. We can start by ending the lunacy of forcing legal marijuana companies to operate as cash-only. Seldom has such a small step, supported by a majority of Americans, had such potential transformational power.

Please seize the moment. We can’t wait.

The time is now. The country is ready.

In 2008, I joined with tens of thousands of Oregonians who cheered you on chanting, “Yes, we can!”

Today, I speak on behalf of millions of Americans across the country and ask you to support ending the prohibition of marijuana.

We hope you will respond, “Yes, I will.”

Please call the white house comment line at (202) 456-1111 and write to the President by going to http://www.whitehouse.cov and clicking on “Contact Us” and ask that the President get Marijuana removed from Schedule 1 immediately.
Please try to call or write at least once a day and ask everyone you know to do the same and to pass the idea on.
With luck, the effort will go viral.
If enough people call it will be impossible for the President to fail to notice and we fervently hope that
it will be impossible for the President to fail to take action.
Countless American lives, especially the lives of American Children with Seizures, and American Cancer Patients, are at stake.

Bernie Sanders has actually authored a Senate Bill to de-schedule cannabis and end federal prohibition. Not one other senator has stepped forward to co-sponsor that bill; not even a senator from one of the four states that enacted cannabis legalization. Bernie Sanders is singular in his courage to do the right and sane thing for the benefit of the vast majority of Americans.

    • Brian Kelly

Gary Johnson also possesses that same courage and would gladly immediately end marijuana prohibition at the federal level also if he was given the opportunity to do so. However unlikely that is to actually happen….

Ask the presidential candidates how they will work on legalization and use of marijuana. It is now used medically and recreationaly legal or illegal. Fair regulations and taxes makes it a domestic product made in U.S.A. good place to employ veterans who need work. They worked hard to protect our freedom. Thanks

In a surprise move, Donald Trump has announced his support of a federalist stance regarding the question of marijuana reform, in which questions of regulated adult use should be “left to the states.” The Republican presidential candidate, fresh off his win of the New Hampshire primary, also expressed his full, unqualified support of medical marijuana reform.

The more people who call and write the President, the faster things will change.

Mr. Obama has the medical industrial complex to support. He has no interest in doing the right thing for you.

      sad but true.

The best way to get the President to take action is to call the white house comment line at (202) 456-1111 and to write the President by going to http://www.whitehouse.gov and clicking on “contact us” and ask that the President get Marijuana removed from Schedule 1 immediately, to do it every day, and to ask everyone you know to do the same.
The more calls and emails they get, faster things will get changed.

The unavoidable detail of the format of the existing federal definition of marijuana is why that definition cannot be rescheduled. It must first be reformed to comply with the Necessary and Proper clause before it can be rescheduled. A simple reform of that definition will preserve marijuana’s Schedule 1 status, but it will de-schedule the cannabis plant, and it can later be rescheduled by anyone with that legal responsibility.

This reform of the existing federal definition will maintain reasonable prohibitions, while restoring our constitutional rights to that versatile plant, and supporting parents who don’t want their children to smoke marijuana.

Sec.802.(16). The term “marijuana” means all parts of the smoke produced by the combustion of the plant Cannabis sativa L. which is prohibited to be grown by or sold by any publicly traded corporation or subsidiary company.

This year is a good time for all marijuana smokers to contemplate the immediate benefits of this reform, and to contact their representatives in Congress to uphold our Constitution.

See the existing federal definition of marihuana:
    http://www.fda.gov/regulatoryinformation/legislation/ucm148726.htm

Important uses for the plant Cannabis sativa L. are in Sec.7606 on page 264:

Yes. Of course. Reasonable prohibitions on a plant that once had none. What an improvement.

No more taxed or regulated than cannabis was in 1936.

There was no sarcasm tag, so perhaps you agree.

Why reschedule a corrupt definition? This reform will restore cannabis to the pharmacopoeia, and stop the Feds from hassling dispensaries and home growers, while allowing Americans farmers to benefit by enlisting corporations to bring their cannabis to market for non-smoked cannabis products. It envisions the continued activism of cannabis smokers to seek rescheduling of that particular use of the plant.

Trying to get nonsmokers on our side. It could be plan B, if Bernie Sanders enticing pro-corporate approach with no senate co-sponsors continues going nowhere. It is the Establishment, with their long-running federal prohibition, that we are fighting here. The constitution is a valuable framework which needs our support. Adult steps, not baby steps.
