Vandalized Marijuana/Alcohol Billboard Should Be Repaired By This Weekend

portland oregon marijuana alcohol billboardOne of the coolest things that has ever happened to Oregon was a recent billboard put up in Portland by the Marijuana Policy Project. The billboard was put up right in time for alcohol awareness month, and the annual wine festival in Portland. The billboard was simple, with a message that essentially says to regulate marijuana like alcohol. Billboards are a traditional form of advertising that I think reaches more people than most think, and the right people. My grandma doesn’t follow this blog, or read anything in the newspapers that has to deal with cannabis reform, but she always looks around when she is driving. When Oregonians for Law Reform put up pro-Measure 80 billboards, she saw them, and so did her friends, and you could tell it resonated with her more than any other form of marijuana information.

I think our opponents knew this, because the billboard was vandalized just hours after Roy Kaufmann from the Marijuana Policy Project held a press conference below it. When I first saw something about it on Twitter, I assumed that the sign was just not properly installed. However, later tweets confirmed that the cords had been cut, and that it was definitely vandalism. This led to Twitter allegations that Kevin Sabet was indeed Spiderman…These allegations of course came from me. But seriously, there has to only be a handful of people that would have had the access to the roof of the building in order to cut the cords. Below is a picture of the vandalized sign:

The person that did this likely couldn’t handle the truth, and felt the need to try to quell the message. However, that strategy back fired when national news started to pick up the story. Marijuana is safer than alcohol. Period. Marijuana should be legal. Period. Anyone who argues with those points needs to get their head out of the ground, quit claiming that the earth is flat, and who knows what else. The winds of change are upon us, get with the program! I was told by Roy Kaufmann via Twitter that the billboard should hopefully be back up by this weekend. Hopefully I can get my grandma to drive past it!

  1. To bad the puppets in Washington are to afraid of this topic and what the old timers think this is wrong!!! its time for a whole lot of change in this country and it must start with the first step on any of the 100’s of topics or problems we have today!!! We the people can do so much when we stand together and the government knows this, it scares them to death, hence why they want a bigger role in controling our day-to-day lives, by using welfair, food stamps, and any thing they can use to “assist” the people…. Here is a question, name one governement program that has actually been a success??? JUST ONE…. CAN YOU?????

  2. Jury nullification is our most potent underused tool against the tyranny of prohibition.

  3. I stopped drinking some time ago. I started up again after peer (interesting how they feel weird if you don’t drink with them) pressure during a family reunion. I was reminded why I stopped drinking the following day – hangover.

When I consume cannabis I normally don’t drink and if I do decide to drink, while consuming cannabis, I don’t drink as much. I am finding out that this is typical behavior with most people. Maybe the people involved with alcohol manufacture and distribution know this interesting little fact. Cannabis legalization is going to cut into their bottom line.

Generally people are far too short sighted. I have tried some beer brewed with cannabis and the effect was pleasant. I could see a melding of cannabis and beer or wine and maybe a cannabis infused vodka (I make tinctures with Everclear and cannabis). Why should it be one or the other. Moderation in all things, is a good thing. There seems to be opportunity in a cannabis infused alcohol market.

Vandalizing the sign is a sign of the desperation from those who appose. It signifies the last days of cannabis prohibition in Oregon. Soon Oregon will legalize (stave of revenue losses from Washington) and California will follow to stem the tide of cannabis users flowing into Oregon for some of Oregon’s taxed and regulated top shelf sun grown varieties. Ahhh, the sweet smell of success.

To all those folks supporting the prohibition of cannabis: No need to vandalize. We don’t care if you decide to join us now at this time of prohibition’s darkest hours. C’mon over and chill with us and we will show you just how green the grass is on this side. One Love…

  4. The Grim Reefer on

Either install it a bit lower and use concrete anchors or you will be repairing it over and over. Just make sure it is out of reach of someone. Use some type of wire cable to hang it from, A rope could be cut easily from the roof using a limbing saw and an extension pole. Good Luck finding a solution.

  5. Fight Prohibition with Jury Nullification!

Parasitic Prohibitionists dance hand in hand with every possible type of criminal one can imagine—an unholy alliance of ignorance, greed and hate which works to destroy all our hard fought freedoms, wealth, health, and security.

    * It only takes one juror to prevent a guilty verdict.

    * You are not lawfully required to disclose your voting intention before taking your seat on a jury.

    * You are also not required to give a reason to the other jurors on your position when voting. Simply state that you find the accused not guilty.

    * Jurors must understand that it is their opinion, their vote. If the Judge and the other jurors disapprove, too bad. There is no punishment for having a dissenting opinion.

We must create what we can no longer afford to wait. Prohibition is the most destructive, dysfunctional, dishonest and hateful policy since Slavery.

If you wish to replace prohibition with a far more sensible system of legalized regulation, PLEASE VOTE TO ACQUIT!

  6. As a former Portland (a.k.a Potland) resident and a current resident of Vancouver (aka The Couv) I was pretty surprised when I heard the sign was vandalized given the tolerance of the herb here. However, I think it backfired since getting vandalized got the sign more news coverage then it would have normally perhaps. I know I read about it getting vandalized in a few papers with national reach. I hope it doesnt cost much to fix it though.
