Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition Kicks Off “Write Your Legislator” Campaign

5

Alabama medical marijuana coalitionNow that we have our house sponsor, it is imperative that we inform the other 139 members of the Alabama House and Senate. It is essential that we do it now because we want to get an early committee hearing, which will make it easier for us to get our legislation passed. The downside is that we will not have as much time once the session begins to sit down and talk to legislators.

We need to bring our bill to their attention, and we need to get some idea of where they stand on the issue. This will allow us to focus our efforts in a more productive manner.

To find your legislator’s email click here.

In the left hand column, you may have to scroll down a bit; you will see the box to type in your zip code + 4 (the +4 is the 4 numbers following your zip code on most of your bills). Once you enter your zip code and hit search, it will give you your representative and your senator. You can then click on their name and it will take you to their home page with their email info. If they do not have an email listed, they can be reached at their firstname.lastname@alhouse.gov (that is for representatives, senators would be firstname.lastname@alsenate.gov).

Simply copy and paste the following text into your email, add their name at the top and your name and zip at the bottom (just your first name is fine). If you would like to rewrite the following in your own words, feel free. If you would like to add your own reasons for supporting medical marijuana, go right ahead. If you want to just copy and paste the text below that works too. Please, be nice! These are the people that will decide the fate of our legislation; being rude does and making them mad does not suit our purposes.

We would like you to add rcrumpton@ammjc.org to the CC line of the email, so that we can better track our efforts.

It is time to let our legislators know what we know; marijuana is the safest and most useful medicine on the planet, and it is time to stop denying patients the right to that medicine.

It is very important to me that this bill be passed due to the calming effects it has on me and the stress it reliefs my seizures go away and i have a shot at living a normal life, driving, and hopefully going back to school agin, and making something of my life. I want to be a psychologist and help people in need, but in order to be able to do that sir I need you to give me a hand up. Take the power out of the drug cartels. Put more jobs into decent hard working God fearing Americans. Yesterday was 9/11. I don’t want my tears to be shed in vein. It hurts to have to buy on the streets not knowing what Im going to get because some undereducated guy in office either doesn’t know or doesn’t care, and I apologize for sounding mean, or rude but it hurts to live in a country where my fellow Americans are being locked up in prisons with murders, rapists, pedophiles, and other sick, sick dangerous people, all because of a profit motive for private interests. If marijuana was really as dangerous as Henry Anslinger said it was or reefer madness says it is. Then I could understand, but its not.

There are far worse pharmaceutical drugs on the market that are legal for God knows whatever reason. (Probably money) Which doesn’t make sense, because you have multiple medications that cause everything from birth defects to death, and they are legal even though the side effects on EVERY commercial are at least 2 minuets long and the advertisement is only 10 seconds long. However a little bit of weed that will bring you 30 minuets of euphoria to someone that is dying of cancer is wrong. where is the logic in that? There has been no direct cause of anyone dying from marijuana.

If anything the Government should start removing some of these pills that we call “medicine” and make marijuana legal. I will bet you there will be a lot less sickness, and with the euphoria, a lot less crime, not to mention a boost to the economy since it would be legal and taxable, and a BIG blow to the cartels since you would be hitting one of there biggest cash crops. Score one for America. Now the question is, who is brave enough to step up to the plate and make history?

Marijuana is the old medicine that is breaking new ground for the future and a great opportunity to help fix the economy as well. don’t throw this gift that God has given us away. You have the opportunity to be remembered and go down in history as the man that stood up for the sick, and spoke for those that didn’t have a voice.

I’ve had years of trouble sleeping. I can’t taking sleeping pills because last time I used them I got addicted to them. Medical Marijuana is perfect for it as it’s safer, non-addictive, and natural. Medical Marijuana needs to be regulated in the great state of Alabama.

    Sincerely,
    Sam
