As my ever-expanding waist line suggests, I love ice cream. I also obviously love cannabis. Until recently I had never consumed marijuana ice cream. I had always wanted to try it, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on some flavors made by a company in Portland, Oregon called Drip Ice Cream. I was meeting with my business partner Travis, and he whipped out a cooler and asked me if I wanted some. That was probably the fastest I have ever said ‘yes’ in my life.
The first flavor I tried was cookies and cream. It has always been my favorite flavor of ice cream. Keep in mind, I had built up in my head for several years just how great marijuana ice cream could/should be. I am happy to say that not only was I not disappointed, but that this ice cream is so great that for a moment I was contemplating never eating anything else ever again. There are simply no words that do justice to just how good Drip ice cream is. I have literally daydreamed about this cookies and cream ice cream everyday since I ate it.
It tasted like the best cookies and cream ice cream I have ever eaten, far superior to what can be bought at a grocery store. This ice cream reminded me of going to ice cream parlors while on vacation in Southern California with one major difference – it had a tinge of marijuana flavor as well. I’m like most people in that I don’t like too much marijuana flavor, so much that it overpowers the flavor of the type of edible I’m eating. With that being said, I like some marijuana flavor in my edibles because after all, I really like the taste of marijuana. This cookies and cream marijuana ice cream made by Drip Ice Cream is the perfect balance. The marijuana and ice cream flavors mesh together so well that it felt like heaven existed on my tongue, if for just a moment in time.
I was so impressed with the ice cream that I had to contact the company to learn more about what they do. The company is based out of Portland, Oregon as I previously mentioned. Drip Ice Cream is a women owned company, and is s strong supporter of the Women Grow PDX chapter. They support activism, which is one of the first things that I look for when determining how I feel about a cannabis company. Right now the company has four flavors with two potency levels. The cookies and cream ice cream that I ate was the lower potency level. My business partner Jay ate some of the double dose ice cream and said it knocked him on his butt, in a good way. I haven’t tried the double dose yet, but when I do, I will make sure to post a review about it.
The Drip Ice Cream cookies and cream flavor that I tried was tested at Green Leaf Labs and contained 72.32 mg/unit of THC and 2.26 mg/unit of CBD. All of the cannabis that goes into Drip Ice Cream products is grown indoor by the company itself. They are doing quite a bit of ongoing research and development to try to find the strains that provide the best results and effects. The currently use a bouquet of different strains. All of the ice cream is infused with winterized bho.
The high from the ice cream was medium level for the regular potency. From what Jay Smoker tells me, the double dose packs quite a bit of punch. I like that they have two potency levels to accomodate different desired effects. One word of warning to people, once you pop the top of the container, you can’t stop eating it because it tastes so good. You may have the best of intentions to only eat half the container, but after one spoonful it will be very difficult to stop. So if you just want a mild high, keep that in mind.
Drip Ice Cream retails for between $12-15 depending on the location. Right now dispensaries in the Portland and Bend areas carry it, but the company is planning on expanding to other markets along the I-5 corridor soon. If you frequent a dispensary that already carries the ice cream, make sure to purchase some, as you will not be disappointed. If you frequent a dispensary that doesn’t carry Drip Ice Cream, you should urge them to do so. They can send an e-mail to [email protected] to get the process started of acquiring inventory. What I’m about to say is something that I truly believe and you can take it to the bank – Drip Ice Cream is my favorite edible company I have ever tried. The flavor of the product is second to none that I have ever consumed, hands down. I would take a bath in this ice cream if it was socially acceptable.
