chris williams montana medical marijuana growerMontana Medical Marijuana Grower Chris Williams Is Facing A Virtual Life Sentence

I truly hope that all TWB readers know about Montana medical marijuana grower Chris Williams’ ongoing legal battle. If you don’t, below is information about a petition that needs 20,000 signatures (currently at 17,339) to help Chris Williams try to avoid a virtual life sentence in prison. Please do your part and keep the pressure on, as this could be just about anyone of us:

  • Target: U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen
  • Sponsored by: Care2.com

Chris Williams will serve a lifetime prison sentence for operating a medical marijuana business in Montana–one of the 18 states where medical cannabis is perfectly legal. Since federal marijuana laws contradict many state drug laws, Williams earned an outrageous 80 years in prison for failing to guess which law he should follow.

Williams’ tragic conviction forces him to leave his career and his teenage son behind–and exceeds the sentences of most pedophiles and violent offenders by decades!

We must reform federal law so the ambiguity of drug standards doesn’t land innocent business owners in jail for life.

Williams frequently gave property tours to law enforcement officials, politicians, and community leaders. The approval of his business was apparent in Montana’s law, among Williams’ community members, and in a statement released by the Department of Justice.

Release Chris Williams from the morally repugnant 80 year sentence he earned for legally supplying medical cannabis to the sick!

Below is the language of the letter:

Dear U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen,

Montana medical cannabis grower, Chris Williams, received an appalling prison sentence of 80 years for operating his business within Montana’s law. Not only is this remarkably unjust, but the logic behind his prison sentence is confusing and unsound.

Federal medical marijuana laws do not match up with state medical marijuana laws–so Williams was simultaneously following and breaking the law. It is up to the federal government to implement reforms so laws are clear, and don’t create dangerous legality gaps that trap innocent citizens.

Your comments will be added here.

Operating a legal business that helps the sick should not earn Williams 80 years in prison, losing him his career and the ability to father his teenage son. The law and the court system failed Williams, so I urge you to immediately reverse the ridiculous conviction imposed on him.

Don’t give Chris Williams a lifetime prison sentence for running a safe and legal business that was community and state-approved!

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

  1. Why in the world would Chris Williams receive such a sentence when every day, every where, baby/child rapers receive basically a slap on the hand. Their crime is a never ending sentence for the children raped. People receiving medical marijuana are able to live a better life with their illness. The justice system is extremely backwards in values. I, and most people, value helping the sick in body over helping baby rapers living “free” with timeless victims. Let Mr. Williams go home.

  2. Manuel Ducret 3rd. on

I really don’t understand the psychotic logic of this nation.A woman can murder a baby she “didn’t want to make” but a person cannot do as s/he wants as far as using marijuana is concerned. The Aztecs used it for women giving birth and it does wonders for PLWHAs as well as people undergoing chemotherapy.

  3. Are you kidding me??? 80 yrs.??? Insane!!! Our country is a disgrace anymore. I have a registered sex offender next door to me. He served hardly any time. Sells drugs, does drugs and beats the hell out of his girlfriend constantly. Just a piece of trash!! But yet this man gets 80 yrs.? Amazes me how you can walk in and buy alcohol which causes more deaths than weed(which i have never heard of anyone getting violent on weed much less killing someone). what a joke!!! This man should not see one day in prison!!!!!

  4. Maybe it is time for DC to secede from this country? They are again over stepping their rightful place to protect this country from Enemies not from Lawful citizens. The majority has spoken to end this war and they don’t care. The Government is out touch, out of line, and out of their Mind.

  5. He needs to sue the state of Montana for failure to protect its citizens from an oppressive government.

If he ran his business without intrastate with no product being transported interstate, then the Feds have no jurisdiction. The argument is mute after this question.

The problem is the jurisdiction issue needed to be raised long before trial.

It is further the States obligation to protect its citizens from abuse from a foreign entity. Yes the Federal Government is a foreign entity in relationship to the state.

The tenth amendment providing that powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the States, are reserved to the States or the people.

When are the people going to make the correct argument.

Unfortunately Attorney’s that are authorized to practice law in federal court are licensed by federal justice system and are agents of the court and cannot by rule violate the court. It is a fine line for an attorney to argue the innocence of a defendant in Federal court.

The key is JURISDICTION. maybe he can bring that up on appeal, I doubt it.

    Good luck.

Oh, I am not an attorney, I have studied some laws, in no way am Intending to give legal advice, maybe lawful but definitely not legal.

  6. Maybe in the late 21st or early 22nd century, this war against people who interact with this wonderful plant will be looked at as the way modern society looks at lynchings, slavery, segregation, the witch trials, and the Inquisition. Barbaric!

  7. THIS is the INJUSTICE system that our Government CONTROLS!!! It’s BULLSHIT & I HOPE that Holder steps down so HOPEFULLY we can get someone with some SENSE as the USAG!!! We ALSO need to some how get rid of that BITCH who’s the head of the DEA!!!

  8. Just Googled the average prison sentence for Rape in the United States. 89 months, less then 10% of Mr.Williams sentence. Wheres the logic??

  9. Patricia Stidham-Burns on

I know a man that was sentenced to 99 years in Montana. We hounded the Courts with Petitions.
We finally got him released and sent to California. Te only stipulation
the Judge gave him was he was NEVER to return to Montana again! So
please spread the Petition! They work!!!
