We all know that hemp is a very versatile plant. It can be turned into bio-fuel, it can be made into fiber for clothing, it can be turned into paper, etc. But one thing that I think a lot of people don’t know enough about is the tasty things you can do with hemp see. I once ate a hemp seed burger at an event in the Bay Area, and I was blown away by how tasty it was. I’m not a vegetarian, but if there were enough hemp seed burger places in my area, I would definitely re-consider.
The sad thing is, there aren’t many places that sell hemp seed burgers in my area. Even worse, buying them at a store to make at home is equally as difficult. I know I’m not the only person out there that wants hemp seed burgers, and it seems like there is lack of a supply for a clearly growing demand. It seems like a pretty logical business opportunity for someone to step in to fill the void, and it sounds like there’s a company trying to do just that. Local ‘hempreneurs’ launch crowdfunding expansion campaign
On Sunday, April 28, 2013, Bay Roots, an organic hemp seed food company, launched a 30-day crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo with the hopes of raising $20,000 for its mainland expansion.
With the rapidly increasing demand for hemp seed burgers, founders Will Gaudet Jr. and Alexa Dennis are excited to take the next step and bring their signature organic, gluten-free hemp seed burger from Maui, Hawaii to the U.S. mainland. “Bay Roots provides a healthy and organic alternative to the traditional meat burger,” said Gaudet Jr. “Our hemp seed burgers are full of vitamins and nutrients and is 33 percent protein, which is more than traditional ground beef.”
Bay Roots’ 30-day crowdfunding campaign aims to provide Gaudet Jr. and Dennis the start-up capital needed to bring their product to the mainland. The $20,000 they hope to raise will allow Bay Roots to produce, store and distribute hemp seed burgers in a full-sized production kitchen.
