How To Make Marijuana Infused Olive Oil

Most stoners prefer to make cannabis butter because it’s quite versatile and it’s easier to make edibles with as compared to always just throwing weed in the pot. However, it seems like most people don’t really know that you can make olive oil infused with cannabis as well. The olive oil is far healthier than butter, not to mention it won’t go back on you and it’s far easier to transport, making it much better then most people know. This recipe will teach you how to make your own cannabis infused olive oil, which can be used in pretty much every single recipe out there!

Cannabis Infused Olive Oil Recipe

  • 3.5 cups virgin olive oil
  • 1 ounce marijuana, finely ground

  1. Use a coffee grinder to get the best powdery marijuana. Usually you can fit about 7 grams in these little grinders at a time and they do a very good job of giving you a fine powder.
  2. Start by putting the oil in a sauce pan and turn up to medium. Do not let the oil reach the boiling point but once it has heated up, you can add in the marijuana powder.
  3. Let the oil simmer, never letting it boil and constantly stirring. If you see bubbles begin to form in the oil, turn down the heat and remove the mixture from the burner until it cools off a bit. By boiling the mixture, too much THC would be released and you wouldn’t get the desired effect from your oil.
  4. Continue this for about an hour, possibly two if you have the time.
  5. Strain your oil through cheesecloth in to a container that you can cap. Be careful to let the oil cool off a bit, as it’ll be extremely hot right off the stove. Also make sure to squeeze the cheesecloth to make sure that you get all of the oil out of it.
  6. You now have your marijuana-infused cannabis oil!

  1. This is a great idea. I usually use coconut oil and make a glass of tea and add as many teaspoons of the oil as i see fit, depending on the potency.

  2. Not letting your olive oil get too hot isn’t just about the weed…olive oil has a low temperature of immflamability compared to other fats like butter. This makes is outright dangerous to heat too hot. It’s why it’s never used for deep frying, and it’s why my housemates ended up getting 3rd degree burns and lighting their kitchen curtains on fire.

  3. This sure sounds interesting! Just did some cannabutter the other day #420 using gee and just as a heads up, the line: “Let the oil simmer, never letting it boil and constantly stirring. If
you see bubbles begin to form in the oil, turn down the heat and remove
the mixture from the burner until it cools off a bit.” really seems to be true. I thought the small bubbles would not be a problem and now i have some not so potent cannabutter in my hands *-*

  4. Oil gums up in vaporizers. Normal ejuice for vaporizers isn’t an oil, it’s a glycerin mix. I know that thc ejuice says it’s an oil, but you have to havea special tank for that.

  5. “I am so grateful to Dr.CHRIS for providing me with Hemp oil here in the United

  6. Mary the cheesecloth is to strain away the used up plant. Once the THC has been cooked into your oil, it is almost useless. You can definitely leave in the marijuana powder in your oil or butter, but using a cheesecloth to strain it out you help avoid getting stem shreds or missed chunks of Marijuana.

I was wondering Because I’m also trying to make this but with only oils. But i don’t want to cook it. Is the method your describing effective, have you test it? And what about the potent of your batch.

  8. Arthur June Worthon on

Make this oil then melt down the chocolate you want use. pour
at least two teaspoons of the oil into the melted chocolate and stir well. pour chocolate into a mold and let cool.

I use olive oil for pizza dough and other bread products, making hummus, babaganoush (eggplant dip), Use when sweating vegetables (on very low heat) before making soup or pasta sauces. At the end of the day it is a fat, a healthy one with proven benefits at reversing clogged arteries, that you can replace for just about any fat in any recipe. I wouldn’t use it in sweets due to the over powering taste but if you were going to make brownies why not make focaccia or savoury baked goods where olive oil benefits the flavour instead? For a less overpowering flavour try infusing groundnut oil (making it perfect for stir fries) or coconut oil (Making it better for your brownies) both have a higher chance of preventing a heart attack in later life :)

  10. Can you explain why the cheesecloth? Why do you want to get the oil out if it’s consumed by eating the olive oil?

  11. Got me. My edibles have come from local dispensaries. I’m just playing amateur here. :)
And I guess edibles are not always green, I was just thinking of these certain sugar cookies.

  12. Seems to me that if you have to use that much oil/butter to make your edibles green somethings not quit right.
Ground up too finely and passing too much plant matter through the cheese cloth?

  13. How’d it work out for ya?
Anyway, if you use small amounts in everything for a meal then it shouldn’t taste too awful bad.
I guess I’m in the minority as I really enjoy the flavor. But I aslo enjoy the different flavors of veggies/ straight from the ground.

  14. Oil works, I’ve made venison fajitas fry the meat (sorry non-meat eaters) in the oil about 2 Tablespoons, and then the veggies in the same oil. A little goes a long way, the food picks up the oil and/or butter. If more oil is needed then use untreated oil to finish up the meal.
The oil I made I went a bit overboard on, and simmered for 6 hrs. stirring ever 15 min. I licked the spoon clean after making the oil, and an hour give/take 15 min I wondered what kind of monster I had created.
Stores well for a long, long time.
I used 2ltrs of virgin olive oil and a bunch of shake/scratch/tiny bud that would’ve been trash.

  15. Sorry dude, this is beyond my expertise. Since I also have a problem with the cannabis taste in edibles, I would think adding a bunch of strong spices (like for pasta sauce) would be a good way to go. Anyway, it could be just one part of a cannabis meal, right?

Seems like a lot of edibles look rather green in color, so do your edibles look like that too? If you can post pictures, that would be cool. Of course, if you make a green sauce (tomatillos), then it would blend in nicely.

  16. AlbusDabledore on

I just put 35 grams in an olive oil and canola oil mix and it is in the double boiler now. Been reading about Brownies with olive oil and realized they’ll probably taste like shit. I am in the same situation haha did you ever find a good solution? Maybe I’ll use it little by little on bread and pasta.

  17. Im not sure about this i have made my own weed butter with a 14s and a pound of butter and the coookies knocked my ass out. and i smoked about a 14s every 2 days.,..

  18. How do you make chocolate infused with THC. I had a piece with 160mgs of THC and it was amazing, tasted good and it was a whole new experience!

  19. Use it like they do in restaurants: pour a few tablespoons on a plate, lightly salt and pepper, then dip some french bread in it. Of mix it up with a some vinegar and use a a salad dressing. The salad would most likely get it into your system the quickest without much to interfere with the absorption, and you’d be eating healthy!

  20. Well, if you make the oil strong enough, it would kinda be like a tincture, right? And most people use those for drinking in liquids (or drops under the tongue). But you can’t very well put olive oil in a drink… or can you? You need some advice from someone who vapes — maybe you could use the leftover oil in a vaporizer. But, why would you want to?

    I’m stumped. :)

  21. What I was wondering is how one could ingest enough of the infused olive oil to get the desired effects The only thing I personally ever use olive oil for is frying food, and I don’t think frying food in MJ infused oil would give a buzz since most of the oil stays in the pan once you are done frying your food. With the cannabutter I just put it in cookies or cake in place of regular butter and that works great. But I’m clued out on the oil right now. I don’t cook much so I don’t know what I would do with the oil and I hoped someone would have some suggestions.

  22. Olive oil does not “go bad”, it is the only one. NO cooking needed at all, simply put buds in a bottle or jar with the oil. Keep out of the sunlight, wait about two weeks!

  23. Don’t you fry food in the cannabutter? What would be the difference with frying it in the cannaoil?

  24. Good idea, but it has to be constantly watched and stirred for one to two hours? Dude, that’s a lifetime.

  25. It might be worth trying 1/4 of this recipe. That would still be enough to make some very entertaining pasta.

  26. putting an ounce of pot in ANYTHING makes me very nervous LOL
i’ll stick to buying it already made, that way i can’t fuck anything up

  27. Interesting. I’d like to try this but I mainly use oil for frying food so I’m not sure what I would do with it. It’s not going to give a buzz if it’s just used to fry food, right? I have to admit I don’t do a lot of baking cookies and cakes but when I do most call for butter not oil and that’s why I personally have always made the cannabutter…

  28. so…what does it mean for butter to “go back on you” also, what makes a liquid easier to transport than a solid?
