hemp for victoryHR 1831 Still Needs The Support Of The Senate

We are very pleased to report that H.R. 1831, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act, gained four new cosponsors since we last updated you: Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-MI 13th District), Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA 51st District), Rep. Timothy Johnson (R-IL 15th District), and Del. Eleanor Norton (D-DC At Large). Please see their bios below and write to thank them if they represent you.

We continue making significant gains and the bill now has 34 cosponsors, the most ever. We would not have been able to do this without your support!

We are now well positioned to make a big push to get a Senate companion bill to H.R. 1831 introduced before the end of the 112th Congress, which Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon will introduce once we locate a Republican cosponsor. Please click here to write your Senator and ask him/her to become a cosponsor of Sen. Wyden’s companion bill to H.R. 1831.

A little more than five months ago our We the People petition to allow hemp farming once again in the U.S. received enough signatures to get a response from The White House. There are well over 27,000 signatures now. On February 22nd we were told that the response is done and is now winding its way through the vetting process. If you did not sign the petition, please sign it now so you will get a copy of their response when it’s issued.

We continue to make progress on the state level as well. Even though it’s an election year, hemp bills have been introduced in six states: Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New Mexico. We hope that at least a few of these bills make it to the finish line. With your donations we can continue our efforts to support state legislation! We have purchased a booth at the National Farmers Union convention which is being held next week in Omaha, Nebraska and provided funding to several hemp activists from New Mexico to attend and educate farmers on the benefits of industrial hemp.

Please make a contribution to Vote Hemp today to help us continue to make progress towards legal hemp farming here in the U.S. We need and truly appreciate your support!
