The Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan is to host The first International Cannabis Convention & Halloween Harmony & Harvest Fest over the coming Halloween weekend.

The event will feature entertainers, exhibits, vendors, guest speakers, and edibles for qualifying patients with current medical marijuana cards. Attendees must be at least 18.

Medical Marijuana Inc’s CEO Bruce Perlowin, has partnered with CEO Ed Kristy of Holistic Health Education Center to organize this event, and bring it to Michigan.

“Michigan is a great place to start, as they recently joined the list of states permitting the use of medical marijuana,” Perlowin said. “We look forward to participating with our partner Ed Kresty in the production of a fantastic three-day event filled with education, entertainment and opportunity”

Pontiac Silverdome spokesman John Mozena says a medical marijuana trade show will be held Oct. 29-31 at the recently reopened stadium.

The Silverdome can seat 80,300 persons, and was recently sold for a little over half a million dollars to Triple Properties Inc. of Toronto. Expected are anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 attendees.

Michigan approved the use of medical marijuana in 2008, but legislators, and community officials have been scrambling to either block dispensaries in their communities, dish out moratoriums, and even introducing a Bill, (616-618), in Lansing that would make growing marijuana for medical use by patients a felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison. You can thank Senator Wayne Kuipers, R-Holland for introducing that Bill.

One community, Westland, has already proposed adopting an ordinance banning marijuana dispensaries outright. They took the Wild Wild West view of dispensaries in their city, and from a law enforcement perspective, believe they would have OK Corral shootouts between the owners of the dispensaries, and pot robbers.

A Royal Oak warehouse owner has asked the city council for permission to lease his building for controlled marijuana growing operations by licensed persons. Detroit will vote in November to legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana on personal property for folks age 21 and over come November 2010.

This event, however, is long overdo for the folks who need medical marijuana to cope with their conditions.

Whatever your feelings regarding medical marijuana, or even full legalization, the upcoming convention will likely have so many undercover, and uniformed officers in, and around the complex, you won’t be able to pull out a lighter without getting frisked.

Of course, the presence of law enforcement at a gathering like this, and their track record of arresting folks for possession, or other marijuana related issues, it would be wise to leave your bongs, small pipes, and samples of pot at the house unless you actually have a license to smoke it.

Use of marijuana is still illegal in Michigan, with the exception of for medical reasons. At the federal level, it is still illegal outright. Would it surprise anyone if a few Fed’s showed up just to sniff around, so to speak?
