Marijuana Brain alcohol white tissue damageThe April issue of the scientific journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Results is scheduled to contain a report analyzing brain scans of teenage alcohol and marijuana users. The results indicate alcohol is highly destructive to the brain’s white matter- but the scans show no negative consequence from cannabis use.

The scans were performed at the beginning of the study and again at the end, 18 months later. Extensive toxicology reports were performed every six months on the study’s 92 adolescent participants. The study evaluated the brain scans only, not intelligence or behavior.

Dr. Tappert, lead researcher on the project, cited the difficulties of studying marijuana on human test subjects. “One reason is that marijuana can really vary. Different strains contain different levels of THC and other marijuana components. For example, some studies have suggested one component, cannabidiol, may actually have neuroprotective effects.”

More details on the upcoming report can be found in an excellent article on Huffington Post. That article contains references to other studies and potential conclusions from the as-yet unpublished data.

  1. What if what we called Gods are really Visitors from other planets with Technology thousands if not millions of years ahead of ours? What if all the things in the Ancient texts like the bible and the Mahabharata were true? Shit I think about when I am partaking in some good bud ;)_###

  2. actually some vegetables like tomatoes if they are cooked it makes it easier for the body to absorb the vitamines or photo nutrients

  3. Prohibitionists want to shout about temporary memory loss caused by cannabis (not always a bad thing), versus the blackouts caused by alcohol, which causes a permanent loss of space and time. That is way more dangerous and damaging to the brain than herb.

  4. Maybe a good indica would have helped. Do you know if you were using an indica or sativa dominant medicine?

  5. I think brainwashing was a lot easier before the internet. But just like religious nuts give religion a bad name, so can some scientific atheists give non-religion a bad name.

Sometimes it seems like the religious nuts are taking over, but most people use religion as a crutch or because they think it makes them look good. And most “Christians” don’t act like Christians. I don’t like seeing ministers open congressional business every day and I don’t like it when President Obama says “God Bless” all the time. As long as people see the government worshiping the Christian god, then things will not change.

Some parents believe that the Bible gives them “permission” to hit their kids, but I think they are in the minority. What is the harm in some people believing that a god had a hand in creating cannabis? To some people who don’t understand science all that well, cannabis may very well seem like some kind of miracle. :)

  6. Guys chill we all have our own beliefs. I respect your beliefs if you respect mine. The light in me honors the light in you. End of story.

  7. There are good reasons to question other’s beliefs and to get them to think critically about them. Because most people don’t choose their religions, they are brainwashed from birth in their parents religion. And then they vote according the their religion. And when their religion says things like homosexuals must be put to death (liviticus), that belief is dangerous and must be challenged.

  8. The Universe created nature. Mother Nature created woman AND man because she has a sense of humor. No need to make it any more complicated than that!

  9. I would never ask myself if a god can heal amputees because I know that’s not possible. But I don’t think it’s impossible for someone with the ability to concentrate the power of their brain to help heal what ails them, whether it’s a physical or mental condition. Unfortunately, only a really small number of people have this “talent.” The rest of us have to use the other things Mother Nature has given us, like cannabis.

I’ve done a lot of critical thinking about different gods, about different religions, about different kinds of people. However, I am not going to discount others’ beliefs, nor denigrate them. Some people worship a god, some worship the almighty dollar, and some worship power. That is their right, regardless of the consequences.

If I worship Peace, then who is my god? Is “god” just another term for “leader”? These questions don’t concern me as much as the real things that people can use to more easily traverse through life (and pain). How other people access the tools that help them obtain Peace is none of my concern.
