Study Finds Clinical Trials For Cannabis And Prostate Cancer Are Needed

sciencePlant cannabinoids possess analgesic and anti-cancer effects and ought to be assessed in patients with prostate cancer, according to a literature review published in the Indian Journal of Urology.

A pair of investigators from Venezuela and the United States assessed the potential use of cannabis in the treatment of prostate cancer. They concluded: “Prostate cancer cells possess increased expression of both cannabinoid 1 and 2 receptors, and stimulation of these results in decrease in cell viability, increased apoptosis, and decreased androgen receptor expression and prostate-specific antigen excretion. … It is our conclusion that it would be of interest to conduct clinical trials involving medicinal cannabis or other cannabinoid agonists, comparing clinical markers such as PSA with controls, especially in men with bone metastatic prostate cancer, whom would not only benefit from the possible anti-androgenic effects of cannabinoids but also from analgesia of bone pain, improving quality of life, while reducing narcotic consumption and preventing opioid dependence.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men and the second cause for cancer-related death.

Cannabinoids and endocannabinoids have shown to be potent anti-cancer inhibitors in preclinical models, halting the proliferation of glioma cells, breast carcinoma, lung carcinoma, and lymphoma, among other cancer cell lines.

  1. The government has been playing a game of cat and mouse. In my opinion the fact that cannabis does in fact have medicinal uses has been proven time and again. The government has taken the stand that cannabis is only a recreational drug and is dangerous and now it is up to we the people to prove them wrong. Now we spend our time chasing down the rebutting evidence instead of realizing that the government already knows cannabis is good medicine. It is the governments intent to keep us busy chasing down facts instead of using our time to simply make cannabis legal. Don’t play their game any longer, join the fight to make cannabis legal and ignore the lies of the government. Spend your time on gathering support for a ballot initiative petition in your state that would make medical marijuana legal.

  2. I think you’re right Okie weed – the govt has been playing games – but this is war to them – and when has the US govt ever admitted defeat in a war? Never. There either has to be another greater cause to get behind (so they’ll abandon the former) or public outcry over continued involvement such as vietnam or the first gulf war. They could never admit this was a mistake. How would it look? Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama all involved in what – a mistake? An error in judgement about a war? By 8 presidents? A deeply flawed conspiracy spanning 40+ years? Never. Brings into question the whole game – does it not?

  3. It has already been proven marijuana/cannabis helps a let of illnesses. I have a friend who is recovering from cancer right now. Wouldn’t it be great of doctors proved marijuana can kill all cancer. We need to share this and Rick Simpson’s story widely.

I have diverticulitis. Pot is the only thing I have found that will ease the pain. It eases the pain almost immediately. Who knows how many people could be helped, cured, etc with pot. I believe the potibilities are endless. I just made that up “potibilities” you can use it for free though if you want to.
