A recent study published in the Journal of American Medicine has some conclusions that might make marijuana advocates pretty excited. According to the study, the potent plant usually known for causing the munchies might actually help people be thinner. Researchers looked at the effect of the drug on metabolic processes and discovered a correlation between smaller waist circumference and marijuana use.

The results showed that, in addition to being thinner, marijuana users appeared to be more healthy overall than those who have never used marijuana.

The study looked at more than 4,600 people, 12 percent of whom said they were current marijuana users and 42 percent of whom said they had used in the past. Previous research had shown that marijuana users had a lower prevalence for diabetes and obesity, but this was the first study where scientists tried to determine if there was a link between insulin and glucose levels and marijuana usage, Yahoo Shine reported.

According to the background section of the study “there are limited data regarding the relationship between cannabinoids and metabolic processes. Epidemiologic studies have found lower prevalence rates of obesity and diabetes mellitus in marijuana users compared with people who have never used marijuana…

  1. Doctors and scientists say it is good and safe in moderation and it definitely has its benefits and the politicians say its bad with no research or findings. when I am sick I don’t go to my local politician. You don’t get wasted and drive and your more aware of your surroundings. the biggest gateway drug is alcohol. very few people I know who smoke do anything else however all the alcohol drinkers participate in promiscuous sex and cocaine. its always the people who view it from their living room and tv that make stupid comments. deaths to date from marijuana=0

  2. this is so true, ever since i quit token I became a pudgy bear. when I toked my boys called me a fat guy in a lil’ body ripped chest, and abs. surprisingly though the cat got fatter but then again 2 cans of wet cat food a day will do that.

  3. You’re awesome. If you read this and understand what a correlation means; you would perceive that a greater percentage of those in cannabis user group were healthy and had a healthy weight compared to those in the non user of cannabis group. This isn’t saying every person who smokes is healthy and those who don’t are fat and gross. Thanks for your life story, we all envy you.

Thankyou … seems like something more should happen like flags and whitsles and fireworks but … no just me eating breakfast at 179 # 5’10” ready to finish my bathroom remodel and begin appreciating my garden which I built this last summer moved over 165 yards of soil and rock by hand in a wheel barrow I have the pictures , trimmed all the trees in the yard loaded the debris and hauled it off BY MY SELF…. I have been lied to by the federal government and the AMA. NO MORE!

  5. Born and raised in Honolulu HI I have been around pakalolo all of my life. 29 years old being smoking everyday for the past 2 1/2 years weighing in at 195lbs, when i was drinking at age 25 i weighed almost 230lbs. Im in the best shape of my life thanks to marijuana, I quit drinking to smoke when my friend said to me during a smoking session “Why would you want to do anything that makes you sick not only while your doing it but the next day as well, that is a key indicator that you are poisoning yourself”

  6. Well
I did back when I was a pot head anyway! Don’t get me wrong I’m for the
raw juicing of it for the medical benefits just agents abusing it
    smoking it.

  7. Um no. I work full time doing concrete finishing, and go to the gym 3-4 times a week and smoke daily. Also my father has been smoking for 40+ years and he accomplished a lot in his life.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I am thin but muscular, able to beat people twice my size, and have several good paying jobs where math and science where necessary, and have been gainfully employed for more than 30 years straight. I also tutor mathematics up to and including calculus and beyond.

  9. Before I left the West coast I was super active, very healthy and toked regularly. FF 10 years and a STUPID move to the SE and I cant find smoke anyplace (felony for trace amounts everytime) so I stay inside because of the humidity, bugs and inbred dumbases = weight gain. I cant wait for my kid to graduate so I can get out of this place.

  10. That’s because they are unemployed and spend what little food money they have on pot Lol

  11. Just the fact that you feel so great just seconds after taking in a little smoke is proof all by itself. All these studies are only proving what pot-smokers have known all along. But nobody listens to the people who actually KNOW what they’re talking about. It’s just so frustrating. I’ll be glad when all this is over and the dark cloud of prohibition vaporizes, never to be seen again.

In 1991 I was diagnosed with type2 diabetes … 10 years of American Medical Ass drugs almost killed me …. nothing from them no words of surprised nothing like they knew cannabis would cure diabetes already no surprise. I am going on 2 years of cannabis use and all my diabetes issues are gone all I have now is the pain from the damage cause by the weight brought on by the use of AMA drug. I believe it is a plot by the fed to kill off the American Indian. and cannabis reduces my pain level to such a mild state I have returned to my construction work … not like I did when I was 20 but pretty damn good form 62 went from 395+ pounds of fat watching videos and dieing to 185 powerhouse of strength and determination to live again.
