We just received notice that industrial hemp remediation pilot program bill, HB 154, will be heard by the Hawaii House Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce in Conference Room 325, at the State Capitol at 2:30 p.m. today, February 13th. This bill authorizes the Chair of the Board of Agriculture to establish a two-year industrial hemp remediation pilot program and appropriates the funds to do so.
Please help us pass these resolutions by presenting testimony to the House Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce.
It’s always great if you can testify in person, but we realize it’s not always possible, especially with so little notice.
So, you can email your testimony to Rep. Angus McKelvey, the chairman of the CPC committee, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to put “Testimony for HB 154” in the subject line so they route it properly.
Here is some suggested testimony:
Please vote for HB 154 and allow the Chair of the Board of Agriculture to establish a two-year industrial hemp remediation pilot program. With its multiple growing seasons, Hawaii is in a unique position to do research on hemp for phytoremediation. Learning more about which varieties of hemp work the best to clean up contaminated soil is in the vital interests of the state and the country as a whole. Varieties developed here in Hawaii could be of benefit to clean up sites across the U.S. and the world. Please vote for HB 154. Thank you.
The Committee likes to have the written testimony 24 hours before the hearing time, but they will accept late testimony. So, please send yours in today! The earlier, the better.
If you are presenting testimony in person, or are used to the Hawaii Legislature’s online testimony submission system, here’s the full hearing notice, with instructions on how to testify in person or upload written testimony: http://1.usa.gov/X5Kf6O
We ask that you pass this information on to friends and family and ask them to submit testimony as well. Thank you so much for your support!
H.R. 525, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013, has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives!
Please write to your Representative in Congress and ask them to become a cosponsor of H.R. 525. Please click here to write to either Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI 1st District) or Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI 2nd District). Both of them are relatively new members of the House, so they need some education in the issue. The message that you will send to them is specifically written to educate their staff, who actually read and reply to letters and emails from constituents, about agricultural hemp. Thank you very much for taking the time to write!
Vote Hemp is a national, single-issue, nonprofit organization dedicated to the acceptance of and free market for industrial hemp, low-THC oilseed and fiber varieties of Cannabis, and to changes in current law to allow U.S. farmers to grow the crop.
