Video: Why You Should Never Talk to Law Enforcement

We’ve had a lot of emails and phone calls lately about people having
interactions with law enforcement, so it’s important to educate yourself
about your rights as a citizen before any such encounters.

If you watch one video this week, please watch this one:

It is a lecture by Professor James Duane of the Regent University School of
Law on the Fifth Amendment right to remain silent. Prof. Duane explains why
you should never, ever, ever talk to the police or any other government
agent for any reason. It doesn’t matter if you’re guilty or innocent, if
you have an alibi or not.

It isn’t possible for anything you say to help you, and it’s very possible
that innocuous things you say will hurt you.

At the end of the video is Virginia Beach Police Department Officer George
Bruch, who says that Prof. Duane is absolutely right and explains why from
a law enforcement perspective.

All you have to say is “I am asserting my Fifth Amendment right to remain
silent. I want to talk to my attorney.”

Please consult an attorney if you have been contacted or stopped by the law
enforcement. This includes Department of Revenue regulators and auditors.
Anything you say can and will be used against you.
