I woke up this morning in Oregon, which normally is exactly where I want to be. Oregon is a very marijuana friendly state, and despite all of the rain, it’s a great place to live. However, I can’t help but daydream of being in San Bernardino, California this weekend because an amazing event is taking place there. In case you have been living under a rock these last few weeks, the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup is this weekend. The event was originally supposed to happen in Los Angeles, but due to some reefer madness among the LAPD, the event was moved. Here is what High Times had to say about it:
“It was first scheduled at L.A. Center Studios, then at Glendale Studios, but local opposition to the event on the part of LAPD, has been insurmountable, despite the fact that HIGH TIMES mounted the exact same event successfully last year with the knowledge and cooperation of LAPD.”
I was lucky enough to be an attendant at last year’s Los Angeles Medical Cannabis Cup, and it was an event like no other. It’s true that no one does things like they do in LA. The event was held among the skyscrapers towards downtown, and it was a beautiful place to listen to music, take dabs, and talk to the toke with other people in attendance. At one point during the after party, a police helicopter flew over and shined a spotlight on us. Everyone cheered and pointed their smoke clouds to the sky in a show of unity. Apparently that gesture was just too much for the cops that they felt the need to throw a monkey wrench in this year’s event!
After another forced move from the second proposed location, the 2013 High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in San Bernardino has become a reality. Other than changing the location on the posters, I’d imagine everything is good to go now. I have been to a couple of events at the NOS Center where the Cup is being held, and it’s one of my favorite venues. Hopefully next year I’m able to make it down there!
